You just got yourself a one way ticket to Uranus with Diwana ![]()
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
Unless the planet was closer to us, mass migration is not possible. We definitely can't take billions of people to another planet light years away. The exoplanets scientists are talking about are hundreds of light years away. As for what is on the planet, we won't know until we get there. It may be in any stage of it's life. Evacuating earth will be our last resort if there is absolutely no way to save the planet from destruction.
but TLK said logistics is not an issue. ve do the beam me down, bhaiyya trick.
even if this was a praablem, we could still send like 2 billion space ships seeded with frozen humans that can defrost themselves on the warm beaches of new planet do numbari. science!

As my favorite character from Star Trek Q once said "must you be so linear, Jean Luc?
I can guarantee you that way before we could build a spaceship that could travel even half of that distance with humans in it, we would be able to master the physics and technology behind quantum teleportation. That will be our ticket out of this planet, if mass migration is ever required.

:khatti: At least I will get away with murder.

Wha? How does Quantum teleportation work on macro scale? I am seriously asking because I didn't think they had yet been able to explain quantum mechanics on macro level.

Here is my techno babble. Just tolerate it
Quantum teleportation is transmitting the exact state of an atom from one location to another. If it can be done for one atom, it can be done for every atom of your body. Unfortunately, that means that were are just sending the information, and not the physical atom. Which means your exact copy could appear elsewhere, without you ever leaving this planet.
So much for your beautiful and intelligent self, haan!

So you are basically cloning yourself with Quantum "teleportation". That's not teleportation. :p Besides, if I were to teleport myself or even send a copy of myself, would it be me? Would it have my memories and my personality? How do we know this "information" is going to be received in the same order as we send it? An electron disappearing here and reappearing there inside an atom is not something we can recreate when it comes to full size humans. I hope we can one day.
Yes it's kind of like 3D printing, where you are the master copy. But is not cloning, technically speaking.
And why does it need to be "you", in terms of soul and what not, as long as it's human. Remember that migration is not intended to save any individual, but the human race.

You make a good point about why does it need to be "me". Certainly, it's not required to reproduce and pass on human genes. If anything, it's probably better that we don't take our emotional baggage to the new planet. I am just wondering actually whether it's even possible to monitor memories and personality and see if those also transfer to the copied versions.

you guys have to watch battlestar galactica. this is exactly what cylons are. also, premise of story is humans are moving in search of a new planet, after being attacked and decimated on earth. in the end... ok maybe i shouldnt give away the ending. but is an awesome show if you like this kind of science fiction.

Good thing is that the " copy " would not just be free of the emotional baggage, but we can probably also filter out the diseases and other medical issues during the teleportation, and sending out a healthy copy.
If we can figure out that memories and feelings are more tangible than they appear, there is no reason why they can’t be teleported too.
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
Will I? If they are sending me with my whole family, then yes I may.
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
No. The idea of it scares me. The idea of just space travel unsettles me.

what is the difference between air travel and space travel?
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
So, the master copy will be on Earth and our projected image of atoms will be living on a distant planet? Isn 't that kinda like astral projection?
What if the master copy dies? Then what?
Re: would you relocate to a new planet

The difference is that I won't be on Earth...I won't even be on the atmospheric turf that I'm familiar with. Frankly speaking, that's scary.
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
Noah has already shown it can be done.
Re: would you relocate to a new planet
has anyone heard of the mars one mission? If you would like your offspring to be first generation of martians do check this out

No, I haven’t heard of it but I know and watched NASA’s Orion test flight in December. They are also getting ready for their first manned mission to mars. This Mars One mission must be privately funded or we would be hearing about it. Is this an American mission?
