I think it's important to have an honest relationship with one's partner...if there are things from the past which have significantly shaped/affected your partner's life, and s/he wants to talk about these things then I feel it's important to try to listen to them...
However, if you feel uncomfortable about hearing anything, it's equally important to let them know...
