Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

I havent been in 12 years, since middle school/ junior high (thats to make it easy on American based guppies to understand). I'll go back to visit soon, but frankly I could never live in a Muslim country, with all that conservatism.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

I noticed Pakistanis don't seem to care about bribes or not treating their servants in the best possible manner, about garbage, hygiene (sp?), and a whole bunch of other issues. If the locals don't seem bothered or aren't willing to change their lifestyle/country, I'm afraid there's little that can be done. Hence, the reason I asked how many would be willing to live in Pakistan under present circumstances.

I honestly don't see any serious reform in Pakistan anytime soon.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

I didnt move here in US because things were not better in Pakistan. I came mostly for economic and academic reasons besides my personal infatuation with the city where they filmed CHiPs. People dont necessarily move out of Pakistan because of necessity. Some do cos they want to. Some come here for higher studies and choose to stay. I have trouble believing the notion that people leave Pakistan because things are not better there. Bhooka koi nahin marr raha pakistan mein.

Yes if i had to I will. I gew up there and it should not be a problem for me to adjust to a place where i was once born and grew up not matter how long i have lived here and how much gorafied i am. The case may be different for most ABCDs and BBCDs and CBCDs. Most of them will have a hard time adjusting there lets say after marriage etc

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Why dont you come back and prrsent a role model for others to follow.. behavoir change is best exemplified by good practices and examples.. there ae many organizations and individuals who are doing great work in this regard.. i also indulge in such activities and have comke back inspite of all the difficulties..

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

I'm confident I cannot make the difference alone or a handful for that matter. The mindset of the majority needs to change in order to bring about a difference.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Degas, are you saying that local population do not have good local role models, that they are oblivious and that they dont have any means of figuring out what is right or wrong?

I mean if you look at media, internet proliferation and interest in western fashion, music, movies and what nots it seemed that locals did not need anyone to come back and be some sort of guide.

People have been going back for ages and the amount of difference they have been able to make is debatable.

even god helps those who help themselves, let alone some mortal expat who moves back.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

if things were better for me money/career wise in pakistan i'd move back in a sec.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

There is no united will in Pakistanis when it comes to Pakistan. We all love to talk but when it comes to execution everyone either runs away or complains "Why me?"

Look at Germany and Japan, after World WarII, entire country was destroyed and their population almost wiped off. They rose up from that adversity because they believed in themseleves. Right now they are at the status of Superpower when it comes to money, trade or technology.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

you guys paint a very negative picture of pakistan. All my cousins who live and work in rawalpindi and islamabad are very happy with their quality of life and would love or us to move out there. Remember we till have a base here in the uk so nothing ventured, nothing gained :)

Only time will tell if we are doing the right thing.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

No, not even close.

I agree with the sentiments, the Germans are Japs rose from the ashes like a phoenix to great heights, but not sensationalize history.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

ibrar

realistic, not negative and not positive. you simplay can not get a good idea of Pakistan in a 2 week vacation, or what you saw as a teen. what you read from people may be negative but it is to balance the overly rosy pictures others seem to have painted, in order to give you a balanced perspective.

how about a sabbatical of sorts, dont just uproot and move, give yourself a set time and go check it out, but be ready to make the desicion atleast at preagreed decision points whether to stay or not.

If you are planning to live in the posh burbs with army of servants and all, then your life style is going to be different than living a middle class sort of existence.

as far as people being happy with the quality of life, sure they are, thats what they know, that is what they are used to, does not mean someone who is not used to the place can find it just as acceptable.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

US post-war assistance plan helped as well

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Indeed it did.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Yes, it did and US gives that assistance to Pakistan too.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

MWAP, not at those levels.

but that set aside, Germany and japan did show amazing capability to bounce back, invsting in education and industry and we saw them roaring back.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

Thank you all for the balanced views. We plan on a 2 month stint to see how we 'adjust'. We plan on living in defence housing 2 or somewhere similar. We won't be employing any children but, hope to have a cook so my wife can learn a few dishes. Pakistan needs better education to combat the rising levels in population amongst the poor.

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

education and opportunity both..

Re: Would you like to move (or move back) to Pakistan?

I*brar*1971 - moving back with a Gori wife and kids??.

Perhaps, you will be able to adjust, but its going to be much much harder for your wife and especially the kids. And what about the future?

Your kids might resent you having brought them back, and may consider going back to their country of birth. Where will that leave you.

The same can be said about your wife - are you sure that you re not hearing what you want to hear from her.
