What if he is made to sign a pre-nikaah agreement?
At this point, my daughters are very young and I cannot predict their religious inclinations. But if they grow up to be very naik and practicing muslimahs, and are comfortable with a proposal like that, I'd be OK with it, I think.
I do not believe in the concept of "letting" your children marry; its their life and the decision is theirs. But honestly, I would be really saddened if my daughter was as idiotic as that.
If he has a job as an Imam of a masjid, then somewhere around $2000-$4000 a month.
Tragedy with our community is that we see our Imams/Aalims are our servants and not as a service provider. Your accountant, lawyer, marriage counselor, doctor will never give you a free advice and you wont even expect that, yet after almost every namaz in our masjid, I see namazi line up or gather around Imam, keep asking maslaa after maslaa(s).
It just make sense to me that as respect, people offer some kind of honorarium every now and then to their imams.
IceSoul, I'm OK with the conservative views. I'd be more scared of people with liberal views. Best situation of course is when there's a balance of deen and duniya...
niks, I know of a girl that wants to marry an Alim/Imam. How old is this man? The girl is studying to be an alima and also doing her BSc.
I dont agree with you Niks about the chances are higher that then Imam would have two wives. I dont know any Imams that have more than one wife. Yes, the Imam is a man of God, but he is also a normal man and husband and knows better not to cross his wife lol.

There's a price on worldly advice, not on *Deeni *advice and its because this WORLD, runs on MONEY.
If he has a proper degree (Aalim or Fazil's degree) then there is no harm if all other boxes are checked as in any other case. If he is not an Islamic degree holder and became imam our of fortune then probably not.
Beside other things one has to see if there is a compatibility b/w their family living style and prospect's family living style. Most of the time if living styles are east and west, that's an open house for problems.

Hmmm... I thought that most women would lean towards the liberal, since conservative is almost always anti-woman to some degree... But you must have your reasons... :)

at the end of a day, I would rather have a son in law who end up getting a second wife than son in law who is sleeping with prostitutes in a cheap motel, or who has a "girlfriend".
ask the father of that new-jersey wife whose husband and his GF killed the innoncet wife. I am sure the father would say exactly what I said.

Wrong propaganda. Its liberal who use woman as sex object. Its liberals who promote porn, sexy commercials and shows like desperate houswife. Its liberal who degrade women more than conservatives.
