I notice people let non-desi tatted people off the hook easy but if a desi person has a tattoo, they are then judged like there is no tomorrow. Given, tattoos are not in desi culture but tattoo shops are opening all over Pakistan and they are becoming quite the norm, esp. amongst our actresses/actors. Vaneeza Ahmed, Amina Haq, HSY, Kamiar Rokni, Meesha Shafi, Nadia Hussain, Rabia Butt, Cybil and many more have quite visible ones that no one seems to really care/pay attention to.
So what is the deal?
p.s. I have a pretty visible tattoo on my wrist and my parents, who are strict and semi-conservative, did not get mad (even after I kinda’ got it w/out asking them, ahem). :shock horror: Given, it was a tip of the hat to Pakistan (and no, it was not my way of showing how patriotic I am :halo:) but still, I didn’t think they’d be THAT okay about it. If anyone wants to see, PM me or post here and I’ll show ya’.
i've NO qualms if it was Islamically allowed...in Islam, any voluntary N unnecessary permanent change thru surgery to human body is NOT allowed while, for medical reasons, even transplant is allowed.
i would venture to say then, that if any viluntary and unnecesary permanent change thru surgery to human body is not allowed...then why are piercings ok? even piercings shudnt be allowed in islam...and yet piercings are common place so why is it ok to have a piercing and not a tattoo?
It wouldn't really bother me, although I've read that Islam doesn't permit them. I think some can be interesting.
It also doesn't permit ladies to pluck their eyebrows, they don't get judged as harsly
“May Allah curse the women who do tattoos and those for whom tattoos are done, those who pluck their eyebrows and those who file their teeth for the purpose of beautification and alter the creation of Allah.” (al-Bukhaari, al-Libaas, 5587; Muslim, al-Libaas, 5538).
P.S. I was planning to get a tribal tattoo on my left shoulder, but decided against it
I judge everybody who has a visible tattoo, seriously, at one job I saw ppl with their ugly piercings and tattoos all over themselves yet tiny nose-pins were "unprofessional." (yes I have something personal against it)
It's not allowed according to Islam and the Mullah brigade will be all over you to remind you of that. Of course they'll never question why it was forbidden and will not realize that the reason for it being forbidden does not really apply nowadays.
I'm a little skeptical of people with tattoos in general because most people get tattoos to try to look cool or because they idolize some celebrity or something. All pretty dumb reasons IMO. I know an arab guy who has tattoos all over his upper arms but those are of his mom and some other stuff and I was a little surprised at first but don't really notice now.
A tattoo that is too visible or obnoxious is annoying no matter who has it...in a professional environment.
If it was someone I was with, I might care what my parents thought about it as I would want to make sure they didn't think negatively of him.
Would I judge them? No. I like tattoos...I don't have the guts to get them though. I think piercings are easier because you can just take them out and its not a big deal but a tattoo is there to stay.
I do judge people with big tattoos, visible or not, Muslim or not. Just because a trend does exist....they tend to be involved in certain activities more commonly than others.
i would venture to say then, that if any viluntary and unnecesary permanent change thru surgery to human body is not allowed...then why are piercings ok? even piercings shudnt be allowed in islam...and yet piercings are common place so why is it ok to have a piercing and not a tattoo?
as far as i understand...if you do NOT wear any jewelry, the hole will fill up and hence it's NOT a permanent change. am i right?
If they look fine overall and that tattoo is just one part of them, I don't think I'd care. I have recently started finding tattoos attractive on men. But obviously, a certain level of sophistication is necessary.
It is about how they carry themselves overall, not just the tattoo.
I personally would probably never get one. I don't want a permanent thing on my body, for forever.
I really hate tattoos. On anybody. Ok, maybe not on New Guinea people or people in Borneo. But everybody else, I REALLY don't like it. I mean, didn't God make you perfect already??
And moreover, are you a human being or a comic book?? Sheesh.
