Hero: Teacher Ray Coe (right) gave a kidney to Alya Ahmed Ali
A selfless teacher who saved the life of a seriously ill pupil by donating one of his kidneys has been hailed as a hero.****
Ray Coe said he knew it was ‘the right thing to do’ after being told Alya Ahmed Ali, 13, was undergoing kidney dialysis and needed a life-saving transplant.
The 53-year-old is a special educational needs coordinator at the Royal Docks Community School in Custom House, east London, where Alya is a pupil.
She suffers from a condition called hydrocephalus, a build-up of fluid in the brain, which has resulted in her having severe learning difficulties.
‘When we told Alya, she just gave me a big squeeze and her face lit up. It brings tears to my eyes whenever I think of that,’ he told the Newham Recorder.
‘For her parents, it’s not words that can express their gratitude. For them I have saved their daughter’s life. It’s like I am another family member now.’
The pair underwent a successful kidney transplant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in February and are both set to return to school after the Easter break.
Her father, Ahmed Ali, called Mr Coe a hero, adding he was ‘an amazing man’.
That’s fair enough honest answer. After death im not sure if i would want to donate my eyes or body parts. while alive i think for family/close friends/select GS members i could donate my kidney if i were a perfect match. Hard choice though.
i haven’t consented to it on my driver’s license, but i intend to do so soon iA…i’m also not comfortable but i will do it because it saves lives and who knows, God forbid, i or any member of my family might need it.
Aur agar woh shaks Indian ho to? Kya aap ko lagega ki aap ki Pakistaniyat kam ho jayegi kyon ki aap ke andar kisi Indian ka organ hai?
Maine kahin padha ki koi logon ko aise lagta hai.
Follow up question..since it is August. Would you feel less of a Pakistani if you required an organ and the only available match was that of an Indian person of unknown religion? What if you required blood transfusion and the only available blood is that of an Indian person? do you think it would dilute your Pakistaniyat/not be good enough? Would you rather wait for a Pakistani/non Indian option?
I read this somewhere but i don’t think it’s a common sentiment at all.
sachi mein there was article jahan likha tha this young boy needed heart and only heart available was indian and some relatives tried to make the parents think against kahin uske paas Indian dil aa jaye. Aur jaise aap ko pata hoga hamare dil itne big nahi hote lol jk
Aap sach sach bataye. Jo bhi aap ko feel ho. I don’t mind either way. Aur aap ne patriotism ka bhi thread banaya na
Hota hoga lekin uss person ne permission diya hoga organ dene ke liye to a stranger. So they would have known what that involves. Think of all the duas that person and their family will get.
I am interested to also know if people would accept Indian organ. It’s ok either way. Sab ka opinion alag ho sakta hai
human organs, human blood and anything underneath the skin has NO religion, no race, no other color than it’s own universal color…under the skin everyone is the same…no one has a bigger heart!
