Would you change your name ?

In USA some desi people change their name at their work place for making it easy for co worker to say their name.
My name is difficult to pronounce for American co workers but I help them out and they get a hang of it in no time and say it with correct pronunciation.
Some change it because they think it is good business specially if they are in a business which has something to do with public dealing for example real estate, attorney etc.
Is it a good idea and practice ? Any thoughts ?

Re: Would you change your name ?

I wouldn't change my name but almost everyone including my nieces and nephews call me Shay and that has become my name at work too. However, I still use my original name on business card and in my work emails and all. I don't mind people calling me Shay but I wouldn't let the nick take over everything.

Re: Would you change your name ?

I wouldnt like to..tho i shud :(

Re: Would you change your name ?

I am not changing my name. Everyone calls me Sohail - no nick names.

Re: Would you change your name ?

i have an easy to pronounce name. even if it were difficult, i'd expect my co-workers to put some effort into learning how to pronounce my name. nothing is impossible if ur willing to give it a try. why should we change our names just bcos ppl are lazy or unwilling to put extra effort in.

Re: Would you change your name ?

hell no

make them suffer by trying to pronounce your name :D

Re: Would you change your name ?

Yep. When people tell me that my name is difficult and they can't pronounce it, I remind them that their name is difficult for me as well, but you don't see me complaining now, do you? They shut up and learn my name.

Re: Would you change your name ?

if i ever had 2 4 whtever reason i probably wud
What's in a name ? :)

Re: Would you change your name ?

nope, I use my name as is.
when some ppl dont pronounce my name correctly, I on purpose mispronounce their name

I still recall calling this guy named Andy and Undie. he corrected me, and I said, yup and my name is not Kamil either. it was done in a humurous way but he got the point.

Re: Would you change your name ?

What kinds of idiots complain to your face that your name is too difficult to say?

Anyway, no, I would never change my name for them. The more I am open about who I am, my background and heritage, the better off everyone is, I feel. They don't need to be treated like children.

Re: Would you change your name ?

What idiot wudn't bother to learn how to say your name! ugh!

Then again, my name is kinda universal so its not so "odd" but different pronunciations. I dont bother abt how someone will pronounce it. cmon how many ways can u butcher SARA????

Re: Would you change your name ?

Nope.

Re: Would you change your name ?

its SARAH, not SARA!!! :emmy: :chai:

Re: Would you change your name ?
