Soni, reading from your previous posts, I really feel that you come from an unstable family structure. Sorry if I judged too harsh. I'm sure you are pretty, and smart enough to get a decent guy. Unless the only thing your mom is trying to score is a rich guy, then sure he's the best option. My personal advice, get back to college and become something on your own, find yourself a good job and become rich ON YOUR OWN. Hopefully along the way you'll find someone educated and decent/sober. A person who smokes pots and drinks isn't a good person in my opinion. Sure he might be good hearted but you need a sensible/mature man to live your life with, not a dil phaink charsi. Good Luck!

My god you people are so square, I've smoked weed for a good chunk of my life and it isn't worse than smoking tobacco. I did stop but only because I health is a priority for me. If the guy is using chronic it could be to relieve severe muscle pain or a number of other medical problems. Read up on how much weed is prescribed in Israel as an alternative to many medicines.

Weed is not crack, but I don't think many of you know the difference.

Read independent articles maybe that'll open your arrogant minds.

^There is a difference between Prescribed drugs for "CHRONIC PAIN" and smoking pot cause you want to get high. And no we are not arrogant minded, we just have different preferences on how life should be lived. And mind you Canada but majority of the Gupshup users are moderately religious and like to live accordingly. Nowhere is it sensible to get married to a pothead and someone who drinks even socially(Islamic perspective). Most of us want to live according to Islam and no we don't want our kids to see their dad coming home drunk, or high or be influenced by any such thing. On the other hand, if you are not concerned about religion, or kids and all that jazz then go for it, if the guy keeps you happy than good for her and him.

If a guy is rich there are no guarantees that he won't lose his wealth after marriage. I have seen numerous examples of established businessmen losing all their assets and then some more in matter of weeks. If you are from Pakistan, just take a look at what happened to the textile industry in last 2/3 years. Over 200 industrial units whose benefactors were rich a couple of years back are now bankrupt due to endless power outages and uncompetitiveness vis a vis other regional players. Secondly, a friend of mine who worked on Wall Street, had a six figure salary and seven figure bonus got fired from his job. Got depressed and combined with other factors (one of which was his expensive lifestyle) is literally on the street now.

So yeah, dont think that if the guy is rich and all, his other flaws can be overlooked.

Even speaking from a non-religious perspective, I would not want my family member married to one doing drugs or smoking cigarettes. Cigarettes nay be nore harmful healthwise, but I hear drugs (including the mild pot) may not keep you in your senses. It may also be masking an addicitve personality that could go on to worse addictions.

For those who choose to stay away from drinks, even more power to them (though personally I have different views on that).

Well it all depends on what u and your family thinks is acceptable..if a family is against drinking and drugs then they would never accept someone who does it..on the other hand if a family is ok with these two things then they wouldnt mind it in a rishta..no one can judge better than u..because all of us r from different family backgrounds having different perspectives..
Anyways if the question was directed towards me then definately NO..yes it is a big deal for me..
