Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

I was talking to a friend of mine who is an atheist. He believes that religion is the cause for most of the evil things that happen in this world today. I am beginning to agree with him.
Religion was required at one point in time since most of the people were barbaric and it was law that Might is right. Nowadays people respect law and do not need the fear of eternal punishment to be good. If you look at the current situation, if religion is taken out of the equation the world would be a better place.

That said I think mankind will find different excuses to be violent towards each other. or is religion just an excuse to grab oil..

What do you think..

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned?

No, because the usa would still be here.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

What you are saying is if there was no religion there wont be any news related to religion.
That sort of news annoys you.
So you can stop following news and save such humongous experiment.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

I can't imagine that it would be a better place.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Obviously not. If you follow one.

Remember the teachings of religion are all the same fundamentally.

It's Man that is evil.

The world would be better if there were no humans. Because humanity has long gone.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Pre-Islamic arabs tried to ban Islam, it thrived and the same people who were fierce in fighting the muslims themselves became muslims. But sure, try it again.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Humans need excuses to fight. If not for religion theyd fight for land, or color or resources.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

The religious are going to fight back if you ban religion. I don't see how that would make this world a better place. That said if stepping away from religion makes your life better go for it.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

No. What are YOU saying

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

The question was should reliogion be banned, not Islam or some other specific religion.

Since you discuss Islam maybe the type followed in Saudia ought to be banned. Crucifying a politicalndissident appears to be an outcome of religion gone wild.

Similarly the BJP modelnof Hinduism ought yo be banned.

Religion and state outgo yo be kept separate. Religion in government ought to be banned.

But poeoplenshoukd be free to follow any faith. Or even no faith at all.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Look at China. They banned religion years ago. Apart from the minor skirmishes that we hear, I think China is a wonderful place. I have been here for quite sometime and love the people.

If you look at any country wherein religion controls a major part of the lives, it is just sickening to see. In Pakistan - people accused of blasphemy are lynched without even a trial. In India, a person got killed because he ate beef. In Saudi,Syria I dont even want to start.

In short if you look at all the problems facing mankind, I honestly think that the world would be a better place if people gave up religion and agreed that all men are equal

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

But by using the word ban, you are using the same strong man tactics the religious power brokers are accused of using.

To each his own. Follow any religion or no religion. As long as you don't impose your beliefs on there shoukd be the civilized approach

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

It is not about the news. It is about what is happening in the world today.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Greed for power and wealth is the ‘cause’. It has always been there and will always be there. It is religion now and it was commies 50 years ago. You can remove religion and something else (extreme capitalism today) will take its place. As of now, religion is the ‘fall guy’.

Oil, or wealth in general.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Religion has nothing to do with it.

It's all about money and power. And the fact that human beings are naturally tribal and discriminatory.

A society full of white people? Hate the gingers. A society of browns? Introduce a caste system.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

I think the religions are bestowed to discipline human. To introduce the moral boundaries and explain wut their purpose of life is.
Almost all the religions give a message of peace and also encourage human to think. When they think over the lines of religion they'll find their way out.

And then it happened that clerics, pundits and Gurus popped up. They juggled with the teaching of religions and changed the course of "use" into "abuse". The teaching of love is buried and hatred is prevailed.

So calling out at religion itself holding it responsible for all the wrongdoings, is so wrong.

If it wouldnt be religion it would be something else. Those bad guyz who need a shade will get a cover either way. Remember the first murder on earth (Habeel-Qabeel) wasnt on the basis of religion.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

To get shade, carry an umbrella.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Muslim v Hindu
Catholic vs Protestant
Catholic vs Jewish ( yeah fine nazis en masse instantly gave up their faith..okay)
Shias vs Sunni
Zulus vs Buntu
Bloods vs Crips
Blacks vs whites
Blacks vs other blacks
Whites vs non whites
Whites vs other whites deemed less white.. Irish, Italian etc

Ergo..idiots just need a reason to fight.
Maulvi/pandit/rabbi/reverend Michael Jackson's "beat it" should be a required hymn for all

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

Even if you were able to ban religion, it's highly unlikely that you would EVER get everyone to agree that all men are equal.

Another thing....
Religion serves many purposes aside from providing law and order to society.
There are many of us that have an inherent need to believe that an earthly existence is not all there is; that they are working towards a greater goal and a better "after-life". Taking away this hope may lead to its own chaos.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned

World would be a better place if people will start following religion.

Yeh munasib baat lag rahi hay.
