Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
I think that some countries would benefit quite a bit by eliminating religion from their constitution.
Ban religion? No. We do need religion but people should be able to practice any religion they want...without any sort of judgment or interference from government because its none of their business.
Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
I think the religions are bestowed to discipline human. To introduce the moral boundaries and explain wut their purpose of life is.
I agree it was required 2000 years ago. With education being available, people do develop a sense of right and wrong if not for religion. Nowadays it is more of certain people controlling others based on religion. Most of the biggest crimes have been committed by deeply religious persons. In India, we see politicians going on temple visiting spree during elections. In the middle east we see people getting killed in the name of religion.

Almost all the religions give a message of peace and also encourage human to think. When they think over the lines of religion they'll find their way out.

So true

And then it happened that clerics, pundits and Gurus popped up. They juggled with the teaching of religions and changed the course of "use" into "abuse". The teaching of love is buried and hatred is prevailed.
So calling out at religion itself holding it responsible for all the wrongdoings, is so wrong.

An anecdote here.. Once God had created man, he called Satan and showed him his beautiful creation and said that man would always try his level best to please God. Satan laughed at it and then said--"I will show man multiple paths to worship you"

If it wouldnt be religion it would be something else. Those bad guyz who need a shade will get a cover either way. Remember the first murder on earth (Habeel-Qabeel) wasnt on the basis of religion.

But it was given a religious color. God was more pleased with one brother while the other got jealous ;)
Maybe I disagree. China might be a good example. people live in harmony most of the time. Almost all the atheistic countries have a better standard of life than the religious ones. I would gladly live in Sweden rather than Saudi Arabia.
Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
You know one benefit I could not over look. If there was no religion we wont have to listen to stupid logics like this thread. I wonder who allowed non-religious people to go retard when speaking about religion. I thought that's what religious people supposed to do.
Do they have no fear of Charles Darwin any more ?
Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
So being a super religious, holy, jannati person, you have the authority to call non-religious people “retards” but when they speak about religion you question their right?!! I get it. Very well balanced post indeed
Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
See, very core of this thread is we(believers) are super wrong.
So I accept it.
Now if we are supper wrong, we would be supper wrong compare to some things esle. right ?
Now of that other thing also show same stupidness as we do, then, the whole idea is null/void.

Now please close this NULL thread.
Absolutely NO, the thread is about a very interesting point some athiests make about religion being the root of problems and then it comes to non-athiests or believers as to how they explain that its not the point.
So in nutshell, a discussion is initiated and the expectation is that every "mature" person would contribute keeping their calm and not disrespecting others regardless of their religious belief.
Now if you can take it as a adult, be my guest but yes if you think that being a "religious" person you automatically get a license to kill then, sorry you are way off.
Its a great thread. Your logical response will be highly appreciated :)

He started with

Which is ultimate refuge for non believer in such discussions. So they find fault with Gods designs. Since it gives them room to feel they are in control of the discussion.
When this should be different subject.

But thats their POV my friend. They have a right to say wutever as long as they arent breaking any rules. So if you want to provide a counter-argument to them it'll be further healthy. Outright rejecting them wont serve the purpose.

I don't think that's the case. I am a non believer and my stance is "Everyone is super wrong until one is proven right by some form of deductive logic." Having supportive empirical evidence will blow everything out of the water but we know it's nearly impossible to do in philosophical discussions/theology.
Having said that, I agree with you that the whole idea is NULL because it's all hearsay. It makes for an interesting discussion but that's all you will ever get out of a discussion like this.
As for the topic on hand, I don't think religion should be banned. Religion is a tool that people can use to bring out the best or worst in them. Religion on its own is harmless. It's humanity that we should fear.

What OP said was "Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned"
Which imply non-religious person would be better.
Then him as non religious person(which I assume from his posts), he does pretty much the same thing what people accuse. religious people of doing. (I think its the right sentence)

I disagree. Sort of. Relatively.
With empirical evidence we can get to a situation very quickly, which human beings are very familiar with and have been working on/with for many decades.
Which is dark-matter, no one seen it. But it make all the known equation works.
Similarly, with available historical data, we can get into scenario were putting one assumption would make every thing make sense.

See the problem is we cannot use the scientific method to prove or disprove a philosophical idea. There is no Christian, Hindu, or Muslim equation that you can use to solve this problem. Until we can, it's all assumptions and opinions. This is why such arguments go nowhere. We can be "dheet" and continue to argue our point to death and hope we can convince the gullible (which we are not, right?). It's true for both believers and non-believers.

I think there is. But since its not in format of E=mc^2, people tend to over look it.
But then old time scientific methods were also written in simple language with out symbols. As long as logic was there, it was accepted method.
Also statical analysis is not philosophy . Neither is mathematics.
But both can start with out tubes, probes and sensors and labs.

Re: Would the world be a better place if all religions were banned
O boy.. if China is your model then next time you visit there please try to criticize govt and or their army in some public place and you’ll get a good idea.
As for people, people are really nice everywhere. Its the govts that have made this place a hell.
Thats why when people get into shade they are called shady.. especially if they are slim…

Please understand that it is a question. Funny how religious people are so offended by just a question and try to be defensive. It is the looking down on certain people that has to stop.
What bothers me is how religion is being used as a tool to subjugate people. True humans might find different reasons to fight, but currently the world is going through a lot of troubles due to religion.
