Would discovering aliens

Re: Would discovering aliens

^I think it entirely depends on how one feels about God and what he/thinks God really is. As long as people continue to define what God is, their faith will also get influenced by what is happening outside.

Re: Would discovering aliens

I always believed that the term 'Rabbul Alameen" (caretaker of all the worlds) is very literal in meaning.

Re: Would discovering aliens

To the top scientists, debates over religion is silly. While I don't have stats, I think a vast majority of top class scientists are atheists.

So for them, discovery of aliens wold have no impact on religion. For the believers, they wouldst find a way to reconcile the new discovery with their belief system.

Re: Would discovering aliens

Then why should aliens' intelligence be measured only in terms of technology. Being more technologically advanced make them more intelligent than humans. Then why can't the same parameter be used to compare human and other species like dolphins' intelligence.

And science has never claimed yet that dolphins are more intelligent than humans. They are intelligent but more than humans? there is no way to tell.

Re: Would discovering aliens

Whatever method they use to reach us has to be more advanced than ours! Whether it is through time travel, worm hole, or light travel, they must be technologically more advanced than us. There is no way someone can reach us and not be more advanced than us. Being more advanced is not equivalent to being more intelligentl. Intelligence is subjective. We lack intelligence in whatever we don't understand. Other beings that do not understand us lack intelligence in what THEY don't understand about us.

Sure, I never claimed they are MORE intelligent than us. There really is no way to tell. I am not arguing that at all.

Re: Would discovering aliens

"They would have an advanced form of intelligence we don't posses yet!"

So what you meant by intelligence here?

Let the aliens first cross the satellite debris scattered across the orbitals to land on the planet.

Re: Would discovering aliens

That's not necessary to make contact at all! What if they have been sending out messages in space but we don't have the technology to decode it. Maybe we are looking at part of the message right now but don't know what to make of it?!

Like TLK mentioned, superiority and intelligence are two different things. A superior species may govern a planet and control its resources AND be technologically advanced but this does not define intelligence. If a person has no limbs, is he not intelligence because he can't move? His intelligence is dependent on what his body is capable of. With no limbs, his intelligence is of no use. There is no one way to measure intelligence.
