- Cutting the onions!
It takes me longer to cut 2 onions than to prepare the whole dish! Maybe I’m doing something wrong

when peeling an onion, don't be a miser desi and peel the easiest layer even if it is thicker.

As soon as you cut the onion in half put in a small container with COLD water for a minute or so....that gets rid of the tearing affect usually.
Also if you light a match ( those wooden kinds) and blow it "off' and hten put it in your teeth so thatyou can smell the sulphur...that also gets rid of the tearing affect.
Just some tips I thought I would share.

^thanks fayax, the smell doesn't bother me at all (I think I'm immune) I just hate cutting them, especially when I want them to be really fine. It takes forever and is such a frustrating job :-/

I think that, (cutting onions) and the tomatos I do the fastest. I used to work as an amigo in the back of a restaurant.

Shinoo: put the peeled onions in a food processor. It will only take you 2 seconds to finely slice them:)

I consider cleaning after cooking the hardest part, because I am always so ready to eat & I just don’t feel right eating with all the mess around. But I am trying to get used to it.
Anyway, if it looks too hard, get a descent chopper/dicer that will do this work for you. Chop enough onions for the week and you won’t have to cry this often. Another tip that hasn’t been mentioned here is to put the peeled onion in the freezer for 5 minutes before chopping it.

For me it is washing handi & patteelis :(
I buy french onions or prebrowned onions from desi stores for quick cooking many times.

for me the worst part is the moment I start to cook, and it lasts till end. :o

am i the only one who loves dish washing????
i don't like cleaning brain (maghaz) and finely cutting spinach in large amount is really boring

best of all.. go to supermarket.. buy bags of frozen chopped onions.. :k:
no crying, no mess.. easy peasy 
as for spinach.. go to supermarket.. get bag of baby spinach leaves.. just rinse under cold water and voila!

I know its off the subject byt Afia : how do you cook brain? I heard that some people boil it before its put in masala. Do you make masala any special way? Thanks

I hate the eating part. Love washing up and making my kitchen all nice and clean again.
