Looking at the world cup format, barring shock-defeats left and right, all the major teams should atleast qualify for the QFs. The downside though is a team might overwhelmingly top their group by winning all 6 games and still go out in the next round (QF). I prefer knockouts at the SF stage of a world cup, not earlier. This is a bit like soccer. I lost interest in the recent soccer world cup once Brazil lost against Holland in the QF 2-1 (one of them was own goal by Brazil). FIFA perhaps cannot do much about it because there are just too many teams in a soccer world cup (32). That is not so the case in cricket. ICC could have come up with a better format...

Atleast we are not going through Pre QF's like soccer.
I dont mind knock outs at QF's. Strong teams have more chances to qualify for Semi's if the tournament has Super 6 or Super 8 format. Pakistan isnt ideal for the world cup so i think QF's are better for Pakistan. Also this formats makes it harder for Africa to win the world Cup.
