How I would love to see Pakistan lift the worl cup trophy but somehow I doubt that they will be able to win it.
Australia have by far the most balanced side and its going to be almost impossible for anyone to stop them retain the cup.
Shoaib will cause havoc but our batsman will always struggle to post scores above 200. Even Inzi and Youhanna have a poor record in South Africa.

Being a Pakistani,, off course would like to see Paksita lift the WC, but
as we all know Pakis are not playing good cricket these days,,

Probably India, Sril Lanka, Pakistan and South Africa in semifinals.
But you never know what Zimbabwe or New Zealand can do.
If the World Cup were to be held somewhere else like Subcontinent, then India and Srilanka would have a strong chance of winning with their star studded batsman and special spinners.
I can only see Pakistan or Australia winning this, South Africa would be the 3rd best choice followed by Newzeland, mainly because of Shane Bond, who I think would cause the most havoc after Shoaib.
Going into 1992 world cup, Australia were the defending champions, had a stable and solid team under the captaincy of Allan Border, and for some inexplicable reason the team just disintegrated in the tournament and were kicked out in the first round. At the same time, a no-name New Zealand team, with some unorthodox strategies (Patel, the spinner opening the bowling) started winning everything. And Pakistan, facing elimination in the opening round, ultimately lifted the trophy. In 1996, Sri Lanka suddenly emerged as the team to beat and Jayasuria blasted everything to oblivion. In 1999, Australia were staring at elimination and suddenly got back into their winning ways and became champions. Previously in 1983, India did a huge turn around and defeated the mighty Windies to lift the trophy. In 1987, India and Pakistan entered the tournament as firm favorites and both lost in the semis. So World Cup does bring about some weird reactions. Other than 1975 and 1979, it is pretty hard to accurately predict the winner before the tournament begins.
I suspect (no, 'hope' is a better word) Australia do a 1992 again, and lose everything in sight. They need to do that to open up the tournament, otherwise its gonna be a slam dunk. :)
They don't plan to make any changes to their team till World Cup and while consistency is good, there might be some premature burn-outs in their team, especially to star players.
Pakistan..... ah well. Yeah, sure. If a miracle happens.
South Africa...... Little chance in my view. They are not over their reputation of chokers.
Sri Lanka and India have a good chance.
England are a good team, but they probably lack the extra special touch which galvanize a team from "good" to "brilliant".
New Zealand.. I have no clue about them recently.
West Indies are in a poor shape. If they do well, that'd be a surprise.
The rest are just "also rans".
