Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
why teenagers only? Does it count if you look 16? ![]()
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
I wasnt’ allowed to work when i was a teenager (gosh i feel so old saying “wheN I was a teenager”
). I been working on and off though since last year. I dont agree wiht parents making their kids work from an early age, making them pay for hteir own education and stuff, but at the same time, maybe if i had been working since i was 16, i’d prolly have a better work ethic (either i hav a ****ty work ethic, or i just have really bad jobs :p)
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
PhatBalongri---ofcourse this topic is not only restricted to teenagers..anyone can reply..i just wnted to know more bout working teenagers..but sure u can reply and tell me bout your job experience
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
I didn't work for pay, but I did internships. What were your specific questions on the experiences?
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
worked part time since 14.. and pretty much full-time/part-time combination since 16..
did data entry, gas station attendant (self and full serve), library-help, fast-food drive thru's/coffee shops, surveillance, traffic-control, road-construction, warehouse work like unloading/loading trucks+filling orders, planning, communications, dispatching, driving, landscaping, snow-removal, emergency-response, (firefighting, poison control etc) and i guess somewhere i've done cleaning too..
yes, each job comes with its OWN challenges and affects ur personal/family and social life.. data entry for example was giving me VERY social time and independence, versus road-construction which required very strong stamina and no social life
as a planner, i started seeing my life and lives of around me differently, and dispatch position made me work on my vocal skills
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
^^ by the way confuse is a guy (incase you are thinking he is a she) :D
I got my first job when I was 17 in a mall; I worked there for 8 months and then got job at my campus. Since then I have been working on campus/educational settings. I love working, I think it is a great learning experience and it def. gives you lot of confidence. I am not too much social by nature so it really didn't affect my social life or studies. My parents never asked me to work but they didn't discourage me either. Actually they feel proud (I think) when I tell them about my achievements and what my supervisors and coworkers think of me.
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
hmmmm..
i think i initially started cuz i wanted to buy stuff for myself.. i’ve always been hesitant about asking for money.. even when i was a kid :s
then as u hit teenage, u WANT stuff.. and now u HAVE to, cuz of bills and mortgage ![]()
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
not a teenager anymore.... but i started working around the age of 17/18 i believe (part time) and then did internships (initially un-paid...then paid)
my first few jobs were in clerical positions and once with a retail store. it helped me turn into a more organized person, be more disciplined and eventually become totally independent. its a good feeling. Parents always supported me...
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
oh Wow..confused..u did everything..nice experiences there! and since 14..thats a pretty young age to start working..i can barely find any jobs for below 18..
Lusi my first job is in the mall as well...which store did u work for?I think mall is an interesting place to work at!
confused..thats y im working..i nver ask for money frm my parents...i like to pay for my own stuff and since i feel like buying many stuff, pay for my cellphone bills, and other expenses..i really needed to work!
ofcourse you gain lot of confidence and experiences when you work and plus working is a great way to spend time and get money! But if you r attending college/univ and like to spend time wid ur family/friends..working can be a bit hard
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
Kids spot, actually after that I worked for burger king :D (so basically ks and bk combined to 8 months). Anyhow, both places were eye openers, great larning experience but would never want to go back in either of those places. I love working on campus.
All my work hours are during my classes, so it is not a big deal. As far friends are concerned, I can't just hang out with a person unless I am extremly comfortable with the person, so working was/is a good alternative for me as it keeps me busy and I get to meet new people.
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
hey i've been working for 6 years now...and its like now...i can not not work---do u know what i mean? (part-time and school)
Like last year i was working 3 jobs and going to school, and its tough, but u get used to it...and i enjoy working - but i do keep my limits...it is tough with school b/c its hard to balance everything --esp when majority of students (esp me :P) procastinate... and like to put time aside for hanging out and chilling...so ya it does get tough---i mean i work a lot now--whats gonna happen when i do settle with a full-time job!
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!

Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
I’ve been working pretty much none stop since I was 18 (both part time and full time). I didn’t really need to work (that’s why parents were invented, right?
) but I just liked the thought of not having to run to my dad every time i needed to buy something. Looking back i wish I hadnt bothered getting a job and had enjoyed that free time sponging off my parents. I now have 40 + years of work to look forward to, should have delayed it as much as I could ![]()
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
im learning my lesson rom you ![]()
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
I believe I've been working since I was 16. My first job was at a South Asian retail store. I then had a co-op work term, dropped out of co-op and worked on campus. I held that position till I completed college. My employer recommended me for a similar position at university and I've been working there since then. I recently got a seasonal job as well. Hopefully it won't hurt my grade.
Like others have suggested, I didn't like asking money from parents for every little thing. I know I'm an extravagant, so I prefer to make my own money and spend it on myself.
My work never really interfered with my school, as I usually manage my time well. Work experience really helped me in numerous ways and I'm sure it'll be a great asset once I step into the actual job world upon graduation.
Re: Working Teenagers Specially Girls!
I’ve had summer jobs in the past. McDonald’s, Wendy’s, RadioShack, and once as a secretary at my Dad’s office. I can’t handle having a job during the school days because I’m already so busy with all the work. However, having a summer job is kinda fun - I found it to be more fun if I worked with a friend rather than on my own. In the beginning it’s fun being able to make your own money and stuff…but then after about a month I started feeling tired down and really did not want to go. Then, the only incentive was getting a paycheck.
Oh by the way…did I mention that I was fired from McDonald’s?
haha yea there’s a funny story behind that. =D
