People who go to the gym or work out at home what is your total diet plan ? Do you follow some strict diet chart or just check the calories before you eat? And, do you take multi- vitamins ,minerals etc?
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I work out at home. Am currently doing the 30 Day shred. I log all my food in myfitnesspal. I am sticking to between 12-1400 cals a day.
if I do feel like cheating on my diet I have one small piece of a chocolate candy but still make sure I don't go over my calorie limit.
I don't take any vitamins but my diet has a lot of fresh fruits and veggies in it so I feel like I am covered.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
My diet consists of low calorie foods in small portions. I recently discovered myfitness pal and it's been very useful to log in and keep track of calories. I try to stay between 1200-1400 (these are net calories btw). I do cheat with junk foods almost every single day, and if I gave those up I know my progress would be better.
Workout currently is 60-70 mins 6 days a week, doing insanity, and other ab workouts.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I'm currently nursing a shoulder injury BUT normally, I go to the gym 2-3x/week on my own (cardio & weight training). In addition, I also meet with my personal trainer 1x/week.
No diet or calorie counting. Just been focused on eating as healthy as possible. I do my best to eat "clean" 5-6 days/week. I give myself 1 day (usually Friday night or Saturday) to cheat. Stopped drinking Coke (well, I drink it maybe 1x/month now compared to my previous 2 can/day habit!)......cut back on red meats (stick to mostly chicken/turkey). We try to avoid fried foods and sweets. I take a very healthy salad to work for lunch daily (or at least 4 days/week). When I get a craving for something sweet....instead of chocolates/sweets......I munch on fruits (strawberries, blueberries, pomegranates, clementines etc.).
As for pills, currently I'm taking Vitamin D3, biotin, fish oil pills, and glucosamine (I need this b/c of the weight training).
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
Counting calories is actually really hard. I don't diet anymore. I have made a conscientious decision to make a lifestyle change over time, and it is an ongoing process that never ends.
I do bootcamp 2-3 times per week. The biggest struggle I have had over the last two months is that my metabolism has skyrocketed, which means my body needs a lot more food throughout the day. I am increasing more lean proteins into my daily food intake. We primarily eat chicken and fish at home, no fried foods for any of us and no sugar in chai/coffee.
Things I have in my daily food intake:
Milled flaxseed with probiotic yoghurt
Daily aloe vera gel (2-3 ounces)
Quinoa
Wheatgrass
I will still eat roti, but instead of eating an entire roti, I will eat only half. A lot of us, including myself, tend to overeat. This is a good way to control the amount I will eat. I will eat rice/pasta maybe once or twice a month.
What I am also trying is to avoid taking vitamin pills. I do take glucosamine chondrite for my back injury and advanced vitamin B complex. Other than that, I try to get my vitamins from food. I also only eat fruits and veggies that are grown locally, and those fruits that are actually in season.
Also stopped drinking soda years ago. I drink bottled water throughout the day.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
If you are keeping calories between 12-1400 , does it gets hard when it comes to workout? Even though you are taking fresh veggies and fruits still you 'll need to take multi vitamins plus you are keeping calories in limits. You don’t feel the need to take now but you might will later on.
Never heard of Insanity, is it better than JM? Don’t you take any vitamins?
OMG, i had the same habit of drinking coke too much.
It has been more than a year since I gave up,I have stopped taking fizzy drinks now. It seems like you eat healthy now! How is your experience with the personal trainer, do you recommend to hire one ? And how about your vitamin intake , do you take everyday or randomly?
How is Aloe vera gel helping you? Does it digests the food quickly?
Rice/pasta once or twice a month? no way, once every week.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I'm not cutting so it's more about eating tons than not. But I don't really do that as good as i should do.
No soda. barely any junk food.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
:hinna: Yep, Coke is one of my biggest weaknesses. But slowly I’m getting it out of my routine.
Thank you! Hubby and I are far from perfect, but we’re doing our best to change our eating habits. As for the vitamins…yes, so far I’ve been taking them daily. I’ve cut back on taking the glucosamine since I’m not doing heavy weights right now due to my shoulder injury.
Personal trainer: Yes, for anyone who’s just learning to exercise, I highly recommend a good trainer. My hubby was skeptical at first but now he loves it. I know for us, there is no way we can push ourselves the way the trainer pushes us. Also, for many of the exercises, it helped me a lot to learn from the trainer the proper way of doing it. Its also helps to have someone hold us “accountable” for what we eat (our trainer asks us at every meeting what we ate during the week). Also, if we don’t work out on our own during the week…we don’t have the stamina to keep up with the trainer’s workout during that session…so if we slack off on our own…it shows.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
that glucosamine/chondritin thing is no more effective than placebos. save your money and buy yourself something nice instead. ![]()
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
^ If you feel the glucosamine pills are worthless…then don’t take them. But since I feel a difference in my joints when I take them, I see no reason to stop.
Besides, I can afford to buy the pills AND something nice for myself. ![]()
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
o i dont put any supplements into this exquisite temple of a body anyway , thanks much
(especially ones that have been shown study after study to be mere placebos). 70 odd miles of running this week, nothing out of a package or bottle. <3
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
This mistake originated at KK - 30 odd runs. Now 70 odd miles. Once again, 70 is an even number. Need more Ivy League graduates.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
It’s certainly different than JM and yes a little better too. It’s a 2 months program consisting of different workouts for each day. You workout 6 days a week and take the 7th off.
Following are the videos for day 1 fit test. If you need more info i’ll be glad to help you with that.
I take biotin off and on but other than that no vitamins.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I don’t believe in taking supplements at all either. Unless of course your doctor wants you to take it for any medical condition. I don’t take anything either. Good diet and good workout it is.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I gave up on coke ,took me ages though but I started taking energy drinks red bull, monster and other fizzy drinks. Now I take none.
I am thinking to join a personal trainer too. Do you see your trainer once a week? And does he tell you about the correct nutrition to take I mean eat healthy etc
So, you don’t take any multi vitamins at all? What is your work out routine and food plan?
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
Watched the videos, I prefer Sanity over JM. It seems to be a good work out. Recently, I have joined the gym,I can’t follow any DVD for work out currently. If you don’t take any vitamins that means you are eating health, exactly what your body needs.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
I receive emails from my gym regarding food, workout etc
Whilst it makes sense to cut potentially harmful fat from our diets (such as saturated fats and trans fats), other types of fat can actually enhance our health. Essential Fatty Acids help to balance the key hormones that exert control over your weight and should never be avoided. To increase your essential fatty acid intake, up your intake of oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, anchovies and sardines. If you’re not keen on fish, add a tablespoon of flaxseed oil to your morning smoothie or mix it into dips or salad dressings.
People who work out daily, how many times you eat fish per week? Does anyone uses flax seed oil ?

I don't drink/like any other fizzy drinks. I'm taking baby steps. These days I'm down to 1 coke once every 2 weeks or so. I think of it as a "treat".
Yes, hubby and I see our trainer once a week. I haven't seen him for a month b/c of my shoulder injury but once it heals, I'll get back to my routine. And yes, each time I see my trainer, he talks to me about what I ate that week. My particular trainer also sends out e-mails to all this clients 1-2x/week with nutrition/workout tips.....motivational stories from his clients etc. Heck even though I haven't see him in a month, he has still been keeping in touch with me though e-mail asking how my shoulder is healing, what foods I'm consuming, and whether or not I'm staying active at the gym (shoulder is preventing me from using my arms to do any work-outs so right now, I'm doing stairmaster and leg/abs stuff that doesn't require me to use my arms).
Also, to get tips for workouts/diet and also just for motivation, I love to go through the articles on bodybuilding.com (on the section for females). While I have no intention of going into bodybuilding or becoming a professional model like most of those women.....their stories and before/after pics give me inspiration. I also like watching the short videos showing different workouts just to get ideas.
Re: Work out and Diet Plan
Lily, I don't have flaxeed oil, but I eat 2 tablespoons of milled flaxseeds everyday. It's quite tasty when mixed in yoghurt. I try to eat fish at least 2-3 times per week.
If you want real motivation, just watch The Biggest Loser. Watching people challenge themselves, get out of their comfort zones and over their own self-imposed restrictions is unbelievably inspiring and motivating.
