Australia Update 3

Well we now know exactly where we stand as far as this Australian tour goes. Essentially our performance was pretty abject, in fact many of you predicted as such and I will not make any excuses. Australia are a very good team they do the basics better than ant other team in the world and they ruthlessly dealt with our efforts.

I was most disappointed with the team’s (read players) inability to put into the match everything that we practiced before hand. For days we had practiced not playing square of the wicket and leaving the ball. We had talked endlessly about playing in the “V” and building our innings. The bottom line however is that the players have to take responsibility once they get on the field, why they are not doing this at present is a mystery and we have to get this right before Melbourne on boxing day.

We will be meeting tomorrow to have a debrief on the game and I am sure it will be an unpleasant experience to relive the game, but it has to be done and the sooner we start learning from our mistakes the better.

We will not panic as regards selection and we have to wait and see how Shoaib Akthars shoulder recovers. The players are hurting and they hopefully will be stung into action for the remainder of the series.

I know how passionate you all are about the game and please understand that the process takes time and occasionally we will have setbacks like this. I am completely aware that we deserve criticism when performing like this and we will take it on the chin. Our determination to put this performance right is high on out list of priorities.

Sorry to all you Pakistan supporters I know you will be disappointed but not nearly as disappointed us we are.
Best Wishes
Bob

You can take a "pakistan cricket team" to the river (or is it the well?) but you cant make them drink.

Bob, we are a lost cause.

They fried Javaid M. b/c he lost againest India, i am just wating to see what kind of treatment woolmer is gonna get from cricket board.

^
he's a gora he can always be excused....

He's not taking responsibility for anything. All we hear him say is 'players are responsible'. to some extent he is right, but he has to take responsbility for this and find a solution.

I dont' think that he is SUPPOSE to take responsibility for what players do on the field. In this regard I completely agree with fallenpieta. If there is something he is NOT doing as a coach, which he is SUPPOSe to do, the players have every right to complain, but what ever players do on the field is upto them

If u recall imran khan's words at the end of the 75 year anniversary game against india...he said..theres only so much a coach can do...on the field..it is the captain who has to marshall the team with some tactful captaincy and the players need to PERFORM!

we can forget abt that 'tactful' captaincy until inzimam is in charge!

yara
woolmer did his best as it stays there

during pracie for 3 weeks they practiced to play V shots

went on to the field and TADA start playng square n give it to hte slip ppl

so lets see what they do next

Its not Woolmer's fault that Pakistan is doing so bad. He can only get the players to practise what to do...if the players dont do what they are taught...its not the coach's fault. I think on the field..captain has a lot to do with the playes morale and boost their performence..and knowinf Inzamam's brilliant captaincy and his enthusiasm on the field is unmatchable.

bob we are a lost cause.....even if we win the next match, that would only only be due to a spark of brilliance or may be due to some extremly bad performance by aussies....but the fact of matter is that we are on a decline for last 12 years.....first, we used to have zaheer abass, miandad, majid khan and hanif muhammad, then we declined and the next lot was saleem malik, ijaz ahmed, amer sohail, shoaib muhammaed and saeed anwar and look at this lot now.....absloutly pathetic.......what is all this telling us.....that the system is crumbling........ no good players....against aussies, we scored less than 100 fourth time in last 8 test matches........even BD is better than that......we need to change the first class infrastructure,.......we need better pitches,......we need mental training of players.....

Give the coach some hire and fire authority and then start seeing results. Right now the coach is a toothless tiger, and players are under no obligation to listen to him (provided the player has a suitable paava at his back). Anyyyyyway, this is Pak cricket. C'est la view. Move on.

well how many times have we seen inzi and shoby leave the field. while yoyo takes chatge.

when a captain and ur strike bowlers leave thr field . its like in army ur general leaves the field or ur lieutenant gets killed leaving the jawans without any guidance and tactics.

rarely we see ganguly, Ponting, Attapatu, heck eve Taibu (zim) leave the field.
but no our captain has to enjoy the luxury of being the captain.
inzi is still one of the best BATSMAN pak ever produced . but hes prolly in the worst lot of captains pakistan ever produced and the reason why hes still in charge is maybe cuz he aint got replacements. like back in waseems time . when every single member of the team was tried.

^^ my two cents worth. :)
good luck in the next test.(k)

Many people believe that Youhana is a better make-shift captain when Inzi is off the field or when he is unavailable for a match. If this is the case, why don't we consider trying Youhana as the captain.

Well Bob Woolmer is just a coach. There are certain things that he can do and there are certain things that are out of his control. Same is true for Javed Miandad and any other coach.

Coaching has unnecessarily been a focal point in cricket in the recent years. Does anybody know who was the coach of 1992 WC winning team. Does anybody even care who is coaching the Aussies. Maybe, inspired by football and soccer where coaches have a lot of influence on how their team perform, some started believing that coaches can do the same in cricket. Probably this is not the case.

There is not much that a coach can do with a gutless and brainless, or a talentless team.

Most of our team member don't understand English
I wonder how Bob is able to coach.

Anyone who blames Woolmer knows nothing about cricket.
Woolmer was'nt the coach last year when we were playing India. Did he get us to lose 2 test matches to India by Innings, and let a no namer like LK Balaji parcel you out on a flat dead wicket......
Did he get the batsmen to play like scared 4 year olds?
This is a institutional problem, deal with the base cause, dont react to the surface issues.

should have checked his record as coach in the first place!!! :hehe:

Shoaib " the actor" akhtar should be made the captain...the sooner the better

actually this is exactly what i’ve been thinking of late as he has stopped “breaking down” for “break dances” :hehe:, right now we do need an aggressive captain, but not too sure of his cricketing mind :bummer:

I am confused, if coach is not responsible for his team performance then why did we fire Miandad. Why we brought this Guy and his compatriots for huge Salaries.
