Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

raindance is sold on shoaib and he also claims him to be his personal friend. so friends do not say anything about shoaib no matter what disgrace he brings to his nation by his personal acts which always takes precedence over his country.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Dude, do you know what Shoaib’s strike rate is? A fit Shoaib is more than an asset for Pakistan; he is half of Pakistan’s bowling! Raindance wants the best for his country, thus he wants a fit Shoaib. Nothing wrong with that. He is not asking for an unfit Shoaib in the team.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Woolmer should not say what he said there.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

i would like to point out that any shoaib fit or unfit is only good in test matches. his one day record of late has been below average if not pathetic. he leaks too many runs and because he opens the bowling and field restrictions are in place any error in line or length is severely punished. so i wouldnt want him in the one day team anyway especially not for the world cup.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

now for the issue on hand. shoaib is a loose cannon. is it really worth the trouble to put him in the team and then find out in the middle of the match something has happened to him. its really hard to tell with him. he could be fully fit and then all of a sudden break down.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

(Assuming) you have a wonderful memory, take a look at following games :

  1. Pakistan vs England (WC 2003)
    http://pak.cricinfo.com/link_to_database/ARCHIVE/WORLD_CUPS/WC2003/SCORECARDS/POOL-A/ENG_PAK_WC2003_ODI23_22FEB2003.html

  2. Pak vs SA (Test 2nd innings)
    http://content-pak.cricinfo.com/rsavpak/engine/current/match/250667.html

^^ If you have such good memory, just compare the eyes and face(s) of Shoaib Akhter and Mohammed Sami when they came and batted better than batsmen.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

i don't think shoaib broke down because he was not match fit ..thats ridiclous..he bowled fine in the first innings..shoaib has always been injury prone because hes flat footted and puts a lot of pressure on his body because of his bowling action.he has broken down like that before in matches when he was considered to be match fit.injuries can happen anytime to fast bowlers without warning.it was a bad decision not to play him in the first test and treat him like just any other bowler.hes your best bowler and should be treated with more respect

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Kher hope for the best tomorow.

Javed Miandad’s Pepsi add is just what it takes to describe him, Hehehehe

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

How much respect does he want? Does he want to slap the coach and captain around just coz he is best bowler? D you want to endorse such behavior to young kids who are watching the game.

Winning is great but winning is not everything. He is an arshole and better suited to a pub.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

I cant understand why is everybody so negative when it comes to Shoaib, is everybody else in the team perfect? Why do we always blame Shoaib for whatever happens? Cant Woolmer be at fault?

The great bowler like Imran Khan are also backing Shoaib, and its not just his injuries that are the reason behind him being sent back, I think Mr. Woolmer is playing a role here.

Shoaib - ‘Woolmer thought injury was fake’

Shoaib Akhtar has explained the altercation that led to his fine of US$2500 in a disciplinary hearing last week, by saying that his coach, Bob Woolmer, had accused him of feigning the injury that led to his withdrawal from Pakistan’s tour of South Africa.

Shoaib, 31, who also failed a dope test last year but was cleared on appeal, was not originally selected for the Pakistan squad on fitness grounds. He was belatedly called up, however, after Umar Gul suffered a twisted ankle, and arrived in time to play a winning hand in the second Test at Port Elizabeth. But after taking 4 for 36 on the first day of the game, he limped out of the tour with a hamstring strain.

It had been Shoaib’s first appearance in Test cricket for 12 months, but in a further twist to his latest saga, television footage showed him pushing Woolmer and exchanging heated words. He was later fined for his actions by the team manager, Talat Ali.

“Woolmer thought I feigned injury which led to our altercation,” Shoaib told reporters in Lahore. “I apologised to Woolmer and he also said a few soft words with me and the matter was closed. Whenever someone doubts my commitment my soul gets hurt, it’s worse than any physical injury.”

This is not the first time Shoaib has been accused of feigning injury. He had to undergo medical tests after he suffered a hamstring injury during Pakistan’s third Test defeat against India three years ago. The Pakistan team’s management, including Inzamam-ul-Haq and the former coach, Javed Miandad, doubted the severity of his injury.

It prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to launch a medical inquiry into the fast bowler, although Akhtar was eventually cleared of any wrongdoing as the medical examinations proved his injury was genuine.

Shoaib said he had offered to bowl through the pain in South Africa. “I was ready to play by having injections but doctors advised against it as they feared it would have ended my chances of playing in the World Cup,” he said. “I am 80 percent fit and am working hard to be fit for the World Cup.”

Wasim Bari, Pakistan’s chief selector, who came under criticism for not selecting Shoaib in the original squad, said he would not make any premature decision. “The PCB has now formed a medical panel,” said Bari, “and only after it clears Shoaib we can consider him for the future matches.”

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

No coach has the right to accuse his players of faking injuries.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Yeah especially one with a track record of doing so. Remember the boy who cried wolf?

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

^^ When did Shoaib fake an injury ? This is the 2nd time he has been accused of doing this and both times doctors have found that he was infact injured and not faking.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

^ you are probably talking about the rib injury in a test after which he also batted and then people questioned his injury. But if you go back further he was 'injured' and skipped series then later was found jet-skiing/clubbing etc.

Anyway, coach should be the last person to accuse his player of feigning injury. Now coach should be brought to court for doing that.

Re: Woolmer-Shoaib heated exchange

Medically proven injury, even in 2004. Maybe you should verify facts before accusing your star bowler Cheegum bhaijan!
