Women who wear burkas in France face £700 fine

What if Pakistan passed a law making the worship of Hinglaj Mata and visiting her temples illegal?

Would you grant the same courtesy to Pakistan?

Muslim practices for Muslims can be declared illegal but you'd get your panties in a twist if Hindu practices were declared illegal for Hindus in Pakistan.

Before you lash out at me I'm only talking hypothetically, I'm not suggesting any such thing...

I hope you were joking there. It is a fact that France is home to 5 million Muslims, who live a reasonable life. It sure beats a life in the slums of Algiers or Casablanca.

I doubt if Bin Ladin ever did anything for poor Muslims. France, on the other hand is one of the major provider for aid to the Muslim world.

Only if the west had that attitude towards other people's countries.

What kind of retarded responses are these? What if someone is born in france, their past many generations have been in france and they still want to wear it. What is a french lady converts to islam and wants to wear it. Which country are these people suppose to go to?

I'm not adamant about convering your whole face but if someone wants to then they should be allowed to. It is not the business of the government to tell the people what to wear.

Honestly thats so racist. So France isnt the country of someone who wears a niqaab? All niqaabis are suddenly automatically termed to be immigrants who are not entitled to a sense of belonging in their country? Do you honestly think there is not a single woman in France whose family has been there for many generations, yet lo and behold, she is a Muslim, whether by birth or conversion? Is it only people who dont wear niqaab who have the cultural authority to decide who gets the belong for REAL and who gets to belong for FAKE

Re: Women who wear burkas in France face £700 fine

Tunisia is a Muslim country that has outlawed veils. Turkey has banned head scarves even in colleges and other state institutions.

It is not a big deal. Muslims of immigrant descent in France, or indeed in any other Western society, are ten times better off than they would be in their ancestral lands.

For most people, even many Muslims, niqaab/burqa is a potent symbol of subjugation of women. It does not help either that most women who choose to don such a restrictive attire don’t do so out of their own free will. France cherishes egalitarianism. Anything that comes in its way cannot be expected to enjoy legal immunity.

See banning of niqaab/burka is part of a pattern; it is not a conspiracy against a religion.
