Women wearing short, tight or see-though clothes

http://www.islam-qa.com/books/muharamaat/english.shtml#57

One of the ways in which our enemies are attacking us in modern times is by means of the fashions which they design and promote, and which have become popular among Muslims. These fashions do not cover anything, because they are so short, transparent or tight; many of them are inappropriate for wearing even in front of other women or one’s mahrams! The Prophet (SAW) (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that these kinds of clothes would appear among the women of the last times, as was reported in the hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him): “There are two types of the people of Hell that I have not seen: people who have whips like the tails of cattle, with which they strike the people; and women who are dressed but naked, walking with an enticing gait, with their hair looking like the humps of camels, leaning sideways. They will not enter Paradise or even smell its fragrance, although its fragrance can be detected from such-and-such a distance.” (Reported by Muslim, 3/1680). Also included in this type of clothes are the garments worn by some women which have long slits from the hem, or pieces cut out here and there; when the wearer sits down, her 'awrah (i.e., everything except the face and hands) becomes visible, apart from the fact that by wearing such clothes a woman is resembling the kuffaar and following their fashions and trends of revealing clothes. We ask Allaah to keep us safe from all that. Another serious matter as regards clothing is the bad pictures which appear on some clothes, such as pictures of singers and rock groups, bottles of wine etc., pictures of animate beings which are forbidden in Islam, crosses, logos of immoral clubs and societies, or bad words which do not befit people of honour, which may be written in foreign languages.

Praise be to Allah.

Here are two Authentic Hadeeth of Prophet pbuh :-

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spoke the truth when he said, “I am not leaving behind any fitnah (trial, temptation) more harmful to men than women.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 4706).

He (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: “This world is sweet and dazzling, and Allaah has you put in charge of it to see how you will do and what you will do, so beware of this world and beware of women, for the first fitnah(temptation, trial) that befell the Children of Israel was concerning women.” (Reported by Muslim, 4925).

In my life specially, my studies and my career has always been down at times due to the allurement of girls unfortunately.! The ones who dont do purdah and stuff. Toba.

But Alhumdulillah, Allah has saved me from all bad consequences and I pray Allah forgives my all sins Ameen and gives me and us all good Guidance towards the truth. Ameen.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggthumb.gif

So who the hell is asking the pious muslims to wear such stuff? All the power to the women that wear what they want to. WHo the hell are you to judge?

Praise be to Allah.

Who are you reffering to Infoman ?

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/confused.gif

Everyone does whatever he or she wants. We just discussed that it is not allowed in Islam for a Muslim woman to wear such kind of clothes. It is a sin that a woman does not cover herself up. And that is the order of Allah - refer the Quran for evidence.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/nook.gif

Lastly, we should never even think that a small sin is small. We should see Who are we disobeying. THe greatness of Allah should be in our mind. If a sin is not forgiven, then a person will surely end up burning in Hell Fire - that is the last place we would ever wanna go.

Gee…how can we go against that logic?

Give me a break. Don’t believe everything you read!

Salams

Infoman i am sorry but i kinda believe everything u guyz say cuz i think ur all truthful n serious about atleast religion.

Alright LogicMan-Mr. Infoman, I dont know who are you, but you want a break, well here it is. It's a short answer, have patience to read it.

*Q. Why does Islam degrade women by keeping them behind the veil?
A.
*

The status of women in Islam is often the target of attacks in the secular media. The ‘hijab’ or the Islamic dress is cited by many as an example of the ‘subjugation’ of women under Islamic law. Before we analyze the reasoning behind the religiously mandated ‘hijab’, let us first study the status of women in societies before the advent of Islam

*1. In the past women were degraded and used as objects of lust
*

The following examples from history amply illustrate the fact that the status of women in earlier civilizations was very low to the extent that they were denied basic human dignity:

  1. Babylonian Civilization:

The women were degraded and were denied all rights under the Babylonian law. If a man murdered a woman, instead of him being punished, his wife was put to death.

  1. Greek Civilization:

Greek Civilization is considered the most glorious of all ancient civilizations. Under this very ‘glorious’ system, women were deprived of all rights and were looked down upon. In Greek mythology, an ‘imaginary woman’ called ‘Pandora’ is the root cause of misfortune of human beings. The Greeks considered women to be subhuman and inferior to men. Though chastity of women was precious, and women were held in high esteem, the Greeks were later overwhelmed by ego and sexual perversions. Prostitution became a regular practice amongst all classes of Greek society.

  1. Roman Civilization:

When Roman Civilization was at the zenith of its ‘glory’, a man even had the right to take the life of his wife. Prostitution and nudity were common amongst the Romans.

  1. Egyptian Civilization:

The Egyptian considered women evil and as a sign of a devil.

  1. Pre-Islamic Arabia:

Before Islam spread in Arabia, the Arabs looked down upon women and very often when a female child was born, she was buried alive.

*2. Islam uplifted women and gave them equality and expects them to maintain their status.
*

Islam uplifted the status of women and granted them their just rights 1400 years ago. Islam expects women to maintain their status.

*Hijab for men
*

People usually only discuss ‘hijab’ in the context of women. However, in the Glorious Qur’an, Allah (swt) first mentions ‘hijab’ for men before ‘hijab’ for the women. The Qur’an mentions in Surah Noor:

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: and Allah is well acquainted with all that they do."

[Al-Qur’an 24:30]

The moment a man looks at a woman and if any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he should lower his gaze.

*Hijab for women.
*

The next verse of Surah Noor, says:

" And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands’ fathers, their sons..."

[Al-Qur’an 24:31]

*3. Six criteria for Hijab.
*

According to Qur’an and Sunnah there are basically six criteria for observing hijab:

  1. Extent:

The first criterion is the extent of the body that should be covered. This is different for men and women. The extent of covering obligatory on the male is to cover the body at least from the navel to the knees. For women, the extent of covering obligatory is to cover the complete body except the face and the hands upto the wrist. If they wish to, they can cover even these parts of the body. Some scholars of Islam insist that the face and the hands are part of the obligatory extent of ‘hijab’.

All the remaining five criteria are the same for men and women.

  1. The clothes worn should be loose and should not reveal the figure.

  2. The clothes worn should not be transparent such that one can see through them.

  3. The clothes worn should not be so glamorous as to attract the opposite sex.

  4. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the opposite sex.

  5. The clothes worn should not resemble that of the unbelievers i.e. they should not wear clothes that are specifically identities or symbols of the unbelievers’ religions.

*4. Hijab includes conduct and behaviour among other things
*

Complete ‘hijab’, besides the six criteria of clothing, also includes the moral conduct, behaviour, attitude and intention of the individual. A person only fulfilling the criteria of ‘hijab’ of the clothes is observing ‘hijab’ in a limited sense. ‘Hijab’ of the clothes should be accompanied by ‘hijab’ of the eyes, ‘hijab’ of the heart, ‘hijab’ of thought and ‘hijab’ of intention. It also includes the way a person walks, the way a person talks, the way he behaves, etc.

*5. Hijab prevents molestation
*

The reason why Hijab is prescribed for women is mentioned in the Qur’an in the following verses of Surah Al-Ahzab:

"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

[Al-Qur’an 33:59]

The Qur’an says that Hijab has been prescribed for the women so that they are recognized as modest women and this will also prevent them from being molested.

*6. Example of twin sisters
*

Suppose two sisters who are twins, and who are equally beautiful, walk down the street. One of them is attired in the Islamic hijab i.e. the complete body is covered, except for the face and the hands up to the wrists. The other sister is wearing western clothes, a mini skirt or shorts. Just around the corner there is a hooligan or ruffian who is waiting for a catch, to tease a girl. Whom will he tease? The girl wearing the Islamic Hijab or the girl wearing the skirt or the mini? Naturally he will tease the girl wearing the skirt or the mini. Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. The Qur’an rightly says that hijab prevents women from being molested.

*7. Capital punishment for the rapists
*

Under the Islamic shariah, a man convicted of having raped a woman, is given capital punishment. Many are astonished at this ‘harsh’ sentence. Some even say that Islam is a ruthless, barbaric religion! I have asked a simple question to hundreds of non-Muslim men. Suppose, God forbid, someone rapes your wife, your mother or your sister. You are made the judge and the rapist is brought in front of you. What punishment would you give him? All of them said they would put him to death. Some went to the extent of saying they would torture him to death. To them I ask, if someone rapes your wife or your mother you want to put him to death. But if the same crime is committed on somebody else’s wife or daughter you say capital punishment is barbaric. Why should there be double standards?

*8. Western society falsely claims to have uplifted women
*

Western talk of women’s liberalization is nothing but a disguised form of exploitation of her body, degradation of her soul, and deprivation of her honour. Western society claims to have ‘uplifted’ women. On the contrary it has actually degraded them to the status of concubines, mistresses and society butterflies who are mere tools in the hands of pleasure seekers and sex marketeers, hidden behind the colourful screen of ‘art’ and ‘culture’.

*9. USA has one of the highest rates of rape
*

United States of America is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries of the world. It also has one of the highest rates of rape in any country in the world. According to a FBI report, in the year 1990, every day on an average 1756 cases of rape were committed in U.S.A alone. Later another report said that on an average everyday 1900 cases of rapes are committed in USA. The year was not mentioned. May be it was 1992 or 1993. May be the Americans got ‘bolder’ in the following years.

Consider a scenario where the Islamic hijab is followed in America. Whenever a man looks at a woman and any brazen or unashamed thought comes to his mind, he lowers his gaze. Every woman wears the Islamic hijab, that is the complete body is covered except the face and the hands upto the wrist. After this if any man commits rape he is given capital punishment. I ask you, in such a scenario, will the rate of rape in America increase, will it remain the same, or will it decrease?

*10. Implementation of Islamic Shariah will reduce the rate of rapes
*

Naturally as soon as Islamic Shariah is implemented positive results will be inevitable. If Islamic Shariah is implemented in any part of the world, whether it is America or Europe, society will breathe easier. Hijab does not degrade a woman but uplifts a woman and protects her modesty and chastity.

And know the Hadith (saying of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him):
"Every religion has a distinctive quality, and the distinctive quality of Islam is *modesty * ." (al-Bayhaqi, Ibn Majah and in Malik's Muwatta]

[This message has been edited by K-2 (edited April 13, 2001).]

K-2, where have you read about Greek and Roman treatment of women? Pandora is a “mythological” character, and there are millions of other female Gods in both Greek and Roman myths. Don’t spread false information.

If hijab is mandatory for men in Islam, how come you don’t see Muslim men walking down the street in the d-head shape Burqa like the Afghan women are forced to wear? You are also suggesting that seeing someone in provocative clothing very easily excites Muslim males. It is not girls’ fault, but those who have bad intentions and bad disposition. There are many ancient civilizations where both men and women don’t cover themselves (check out some aboriginal, Incas, Dingas, etc.,) and the concept of rape doesn’t exist in those cultures. So your argument about hijab as a prevention of rape is absolutely false. The reason you see overwhelming number of rape cases in the USA is because they are “reported”, in places like Pakistan, the rape goes in overwhelming majority of times “unreported” because of the society’s perception of it – which usually blames a “women” even when she is raped.

K-2: Jazaa-Kallaahu Khayr bro, thnkx for sharing tht

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

NYA, why are you so frustrated on my post, man? Mayri jaan, mayn toe aap ka Musalman bhai hoon. Ahmadi sahab why you try to fight or oppose me

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Anyway, you blamed me for spreading false. But I have taken the article from this authentic website: www.whyislam.org/faq so email them to inquire the authenticity of the article.

You mentioned that the article suggests men to wear Burqa

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

, but to me this shows that you did not read the article attentively and jumped to the wrong conclusion in a hurry to critisize me. Please read that part of the article for your own good. I wanted to critisize you more, but then I thought rather then taking my good advice, you may get annoyed and reply with more sarcasm. As Shakespeare said some like this:
Advice is very beneficial, but we dont like to hear it. On the other hand, flattery is very harmful, but we love it.

**Please note, if I had mentioned the above quotation as to have been said by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) or a sahabah, we would not have gotten that much influence of the quotation, rather to have been said by that great Shakespeare

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

and that’s how we Muslims treat our religion; shame on us!

You said that “hijab as a prevention of rape is **absolutely ** false.” This show that you are not giving enough thought to the matter, but being occupied by western ways. Here’s what the Qur’an says:
“O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad); **that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” ** [Al-Qur’an 33:59]
So please give it a second thought.

And the way you expressed rapes in Pakistan was a bit exaggeration. I agree that there could be such cases, but we are taking about what Islam says, and not what some part of Pakistani society is doing. Pakistani society should correct itself according to Islam.

Brother please, try to understand Islam with acceptance, then insha Allah, you will see the wisdom behind the teaching of Islam.

SHARAM AANI CHAHEYEY TUMHEIN AHMADI NY. that was sad whatever he said about K 2’z article.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/nook.gif

I am too mad to say anything right now. SO PEACE OUT.

NYA and Info,
In Islam, women are supposed to cover their bodies modestly. Which part of that dont u understand? What are you debating against?

I don't mean to intrude on this endless discussion but I have to get a point across here.

Something really bothered me as to what Salmankhan_Mozlem said, he stated that

"In my life specially, my studies and my career has always been down at times due to the allurement of girls unfortunately.! The ones who dont do purdah and stuff. Toba."

So lets think about it logically, why wasn't your gaze lowered? Why blame only the women for your misfortune? Aren't you responsible for checking her out? Did you gaze not wander?

Fact of the matter is, instead of continuously bombarding WOMEN with this "PURDAH" why not teach the guys out there who like looking under the purdah as well. No wonder the women in our culture and religion complain that they are not given any freedom because of this constant bombardment. We have to look at both genders, only in that way is it treated equally!

Living in a westernized society there is hardly any purdah, so your saying the women who are not even muslim, who don't believe in Islam should cover themselves for you sake, so that it may not lead you to misfortune.

In this world there will always be temptations whether it be a girl or something else its up to us to figure out what is good and bad. It takes both genders to do the Islamically logical thing and if not one then surely the other must try instead of blaming the other for their lifes misfortune.

To a certain extent I am sorry to say I agree with Infoman because he said let them do whatever the hell they want to. Why do I agree with him? Because they are held for their actions, and so will you. If you see it unfit for you livelihood that this kind of exposure is bad for you then go else where. Surely, you will be held accountable for the deed you've done by avoiding a sin such as gazing at the women. While she will be held accountable for her deed.

All in all, stop bashing women if you can't do your part. Because then your another double standard.

I hope I have not offended anyone by saying what I have, please forgive me if this angers you but don't you think what I've said is right? without the hadiths and everything else.

Praise be to Allah .

Coconut sister, please read the following Authentic Hadeeth of Prophet pbuh as they were in my mind when i typed the previous thread. Thanx.

I dont want to get into an argument. The fact is that i love and respect women. Yeah I agree that lowering the gaze is an order from Allah too to both males and females. Islam has given women so much freedom legally but i dont know what kinda freedom you are talking about. Listen these pakistani molvi'z have made religion hard for the normal people who dont know much. So please go for the facts and dont listen to paki mauliv'z they have messed up everything.

Saheeh Muslim:-
Book 036, Number 6606:

Abu Sa'id Khudri reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: The world is sweet and green (alluring) and verily Allah is going to install you as vicegerent in it in order to see how you act. So avoid the allurement of women: verily, the first trial for the people of Isri'll was caused by women. And in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Ibn Bashshar the words are:" So that He should see how you act."

--and this -

Saheeh Muslim
Book 036, Number 6597:

Ibn Abbas reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: I had a chance to look into the Paradise and I found that majority of the people was poor and I looked into the Fire and there I found the majority constituted by women.

--also this --
Saheeh Muslim
Book 036, Number 6603:

Usama b. Zaid reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: I have not left after me any (chance) of turmoil more injurious to men than the harm done to the men because of women.
