ok - then let me ask this, how many of those women understand that a burqa is a cultural adornment as opposed to a religious one? Would they still have the same attachment to the burqa knowing it is not a religious garmet?

 And how many, knowing this would still wear it? and given that, how many wear it out of fear of repercussions?

Also, it would be nice to hear a woman’s point of view as opposed to a man who has never had to wear a burqa. Much as I find it interesting to know how guy’s feel about it and how a guy percieves how cool a woman is, how much they love it, etc, the message is diluted because, well, guys don’t wear it.

I am not saying that a person can wear a burka out of choice, all the more power to them. There are plenty of women in burqa’s working around Philly and no one cares. But don’t confuse a person wearing a burqa because everyone else does and it would single them out (not in a good way, be honest) to take it off with those who elect to wear one out of conviction that it is the right thing to do.

As for nuns? They have a choice to wear what they wear as a part of their calling, they don’t have to wear a nun’s habit (name of the clothing, the headcovering) prior to making the choice to wear one. And nuns also have a choice on whether to adopt the habit or not. Sister Perpetua is a sister at a college in RI who dressed conservatively but never wore any vestige of her station, just the wedding ring. Nuns have a choice and if they chose not to, no one makes them change.

Minah, it’s also very cultural…

You must remember, Islam encompasses a very diverse set of cultures and has ingrained itself within them…You travel from one ME country to any other and you’ll see hundred of different ways that women cover themselves…Jilbab, Niqab, the Black BurQa, the colorful bottle like shapes of their BurQas, Khimaars and so many more…

My own aunt and her daughter are Ninjas, and they love it…It wasn’t forced upon them, they chose it…

I think the ones that really deserve pity are porn stars…Poor people have to rut naked like animals for the pleasure of others…How bad is that?
