^I kinda disagree cherry. I think we are all pretty much in agreement...admittedly, I haven't read every word of every post in here, but I think we're all saying the same thing in different ways, which is:
Rapists = scum Victims = simply victims who didn't deserve what they got Caution = a good thing in all situations
I think the point of contention is blame v. responsibility. The rapist is to blame for the crime but we must all take responsibility for our actions in order to protect ourselves. But regardless of what we do or don't do, the FAULT lies with the person who committed the crime and not the victim.
Did I just confuse the issue even more?
Thats all it is.
Here's an example: girl is alone with a guy. She's being nice to him, laughing, smiling, sending flirty "signals." Guy takes advantage of her, using the close space they're in and her signals. Its not the act rape but he does make advances towards her that violate her personal space and makes her feel uncomfortable and angry.
Guy is a scumbag, no doubt, who deserves a kick in the face (and other spots) but shouldn't the girl have been more careful by not putting herself in that close space with that guy and not given off the signals that made him believe hse was the type of girl who would welcome his advances?
By taking responsibility for her actions, she accepts that whatever took place wouldn't have happened had she not put herself in that situation. She likely learned her lesson and became more careful about how she behaved and take notice of her surroundings.
Guy had no right to do what he did, but like someone else said....everyone is responsible for their own behavior. That said...if someone is still vigilant and careful to the best of tehir abilities and it still happens...it is very unfortunate and the person should be helped and rapist punished to the max.
ur kidding right
so ur saying men cant think for themselves? they see a woman alone and their brains go all haywire? ok
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
Er....where do u see me saying that?
In some cases, it IS their fault as well as the rapist's. I don't think women are so naive that they think they can just walk around skimpily dressed and drunk out of their minds late at night and expect to be safe. You need to be cautious and protect your own self. Do notice that I am talking about rapes happening with JUST drunken women here.
wow.
Victim blaming is a typical fascist trait, infamously expressed in arguments like "a raped woman in a short skirt was asking for it". Historically victim-blaming has often emerged in racist and sexist forms. It is also about blaming individuals for their personal distress or for social difficulties, rather than the other parties involved or the overarching social system in place.Rape is always the fault of the rapist.
NOONE is to blame for rape except the rapist.
In real life, however, rape victims are brutalized, ignored and harassed by the system that is designed to help them. They are traumatized stigmatized or shamed for life if they are not killed during the attack.
SO SAD that you perpetuate this uneducated myth.

Ditto!
On a sidenote.....if we agree to victim taking share of blame and most common are skimy clothing and being drunk..... then in conservative societies (rural and even metropolitan areas of India), Pakistan & Bangladesh by and large...the statsitics of rapes would be way lower........ as most female population does not drink nor wear minis..or skimpy stuff.
Being cautious...as propagated by most over here is relative term.....rapists' mind does see beyond skimpy clothes and drunken state......so blame is ONLY one person......The Rapist....and not the Victim.
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
Secondly...what does being cautious means....
It is like saying if the house was burgalared, the police would come and say...why did you build such a beautiful house, you should take the blame.
If someone steals Ferrari then police would say you take blame and from now on start driving Suzuki Alto....
It would be interesting thing for lawyers too....they will never be able to settle their cases, as degree of blame would be so subjective therefore cases would go on and on for centuries without being decided.......
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
Cautious means the following:
Oh yeah lastly in majority of rape cases the woman knows the person before hand. These are not random acts of violence. So make sure you keep decent company.
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
fully clothed women get raped..so kiss #1 good-bye..
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
Yeah....that's like saying. Every nun gets raped. Seriously.
Re: Women say if you were raped, it is your own fault
rape is power issue..looks like ur really ignorant about this issue buddy..

Is there any statistical correlation between number of cases and societies that adhere to what you are terming as cautious?
Yeah....that's like saying. Every nun gets raped. Seriously.
Yeah cos being fully dressed means u have to dress like a nun..
Soni27 is right. It's not uncommon for the women who've been raped to have been wearing 'normal' clothes..
To the person who say the lines are sometimes blurred when a woman is drunk no normal man is stupid enough to not know what a simple 'no' means or if the woman starts crying or telling him to get off and if she's so drunk she looks comatose any 'decent' man wouldn't even try..

lol, number 3 deserves its own thread
