A lot of men I have come across generally have big egos (this is a generalisation, not true for all men) which renders them incapable of taking advice on board.
It's either this or the fact that men are quite reserved, more so in the Pakistani community, although it is quite true of men in general. Many men (generalisation again) feel it makes them less 'manly' if they discuss emotions openly, especially painful experiences, and that not being able to handle problems on their own makes them less of a man. Since women are generally more in touch with their emotions and have no problem showing vulnerability it makes it easier for them to share problems, feelings etc.
Products of society? A genetic defect? who knows.
