this is not reflective of Islam and this is happening in a remote place.
the same sort of stuff happens in the name of many different religions in remote places.
More of the reason to wish really really hard that religion is true and judgment day is going to be there. It would be fun watching such molvis burning in hell.

as far as the news go, the woman and her boyfriend( a married man) both to be canned as a punishment to being involved in adultery. the title that woman to be canned for being raped by 8 men is indeed misleading. a group of men did rape her when they caught her with her boyfriend and those men are also being punished by the law.

Actually this is not true. In fact until 2005/6 in Pakistan it was the law that if a woman failed to produced 4 witnesses for rape she would go to jail for an adultery.

It is a remote area within Indonesia. What is the Indonesian govt doing abt this? I would assume they have overturned the caning Decision by now. So what if she was going to have sex with the married man? Is that justification to cane her? To most reasonable folks that is also barbaric.

the woman didn’t have sex with the married man, she was raped by those 8 men and then turned over to the ‘islamic’ police as per video. either way, its quite barbaric to beat someone up for adultery.

they admitted having sex and are to be punished with canning under shariah law. this was debated in another thread too with some people viewing shariah strict laws as barbaric and some not, so to each its own.

Hudood Ordinance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Offence of Zina (Enforcement of Hudood) Ordinance 1979 described the offences of Zina(fornication and adultery) and zina bil jabbar (rape). They were defined separately in the Ordinance. Prior to the Women Protection (Criminal Laws Amendment) Act 2006, the Hudood Ordinance provided for two kinds of punishments: punishments under hadd under its section 8 or under Tazir under section 10.
Under hadd, “at least four Muslim adult male witnesses, about whom the court is satisfied, having regard to the requirements of tazkiyah al-shuhood, that they are truthful persons and abstain from major sins (kabair), give evidence as eye-witnesses of the act of penetration necessary to the offence.”
No case could be proven under hadd due to the above stringent stipulation.
Punishments until now were awarded under the Tazir provision of the Hudood Ordinance.
The 2006 Act has now totally deleted zina bil jabbar from the Hudood Ordinance[1] and inserted sections 375 and 376 for Rape and Punishment respectively in the PPC to replace it [2]

^Exactly, there was no provision under hudood ordinance that failure to produce 4 victims meant woman will be put in jail, rather it was stated that in absence of 4 witnesses punishment to rapist will be under Tazeer law. But as it’s said, truth is first victim in propaganda war.

The burden of proof was on victim & if she could not produce 4 male witness she ended up in jail. There are countless examples of that.

There was also great risk attached to alleging rape under the Hudood Ordinance, as rape victims had to produce four male eye-witnesses of the act of penetration. This, of course, was pretty much impossible, as for four men to witness the act, they would have had to have been not only cowardly bystanders or complicit in the rape, but voyeurs too. They would certainly not be willing witnesses and failure to produce the necessary witnesses risked the victim being charged with adultery - for which the maximum punishment was stoning to death for married people and 100 lashes for the unwed - or fornication and alleging a false crime, for which the penalties were stoning, lashings or prison.
The situation often did not improve much when the rape victim was released from jail, as the unapprehended rapist/s could rape the victim again with impunity, the legal costs were probably crippling, and such great shame is attached to being raped, that even the victim’s own family may be anything but supportive, employment and housing may be impossible to obtain and cruel gossip incessant.
Fewer rape victims falsely accused seen as progress
In 2006, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed the Protection of Women Act (PWA), which, while not repealing the Hudood Ordinances, restored the offence of rape to the Penal Code, thus separating zina (extra-marital sex under Shari’a law,) from zina-bil-jabr (rape under secular law) and abolished the need for four male witnesses. The effect has been to significantly reduce false accusations against rape victims and the number of women being imprisoned for alleged zina. Additionally, the PWA repealed the punishment of whipping; but inhumane sentences such as amputation and death by stoning remain on the statute books.
