Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Interesting... One thing is that she is surprised by the standard of education in Kashmir. One Kashmiri classmate in college of mine spent her teen years in Bombay since her parents sent her to her aunts house for education. She said that if she had continued to stay in Srinagar, she would have been unable to pass her entrance exams for universities else where in the rest f the country since education was always halted and incomplete there due to frequent shut downs

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

probably in this case, the lady got enough time to do research on Kashmir's history, culture and architects during such shutdowns in the library which remained open.

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Hail Kashmiris :D

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

lols. What is Wazwaan she is talking about while condemning Buffet system?

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

It is combination of Kashmiri dishes, making all of them is considered an art in Kashmir, generally made by some master chef

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

On related note, did you run across Mr. Shehbaz Shareef of Punjab Pakistan on your daily commute on the Delhi Metro ? :chai:

He was on a tour to check it out yesterday.

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

How is it different from buffet?

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

he traveled today and I daily deboard at Rajiv Chowk, he travelled at 11PM which is non peak hour, when everyone is in office, and blue line in which he traveled to reach metro bhawan, is generally not crowdy at that time. He might be planning something for Lahore, though I have heard that road after his house in Lahore is "Maut ka Kuan" and road in Delhi, as Indian politicians says are like "madhuri ke gaal types" :D

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Buffet is civilized British way of organizing :D

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

He got done some personal level constructions like 'Honey ka pull' made over railway track to facilitate his sweat-heart. His son is also quite 'shoqeen' giving rival parties a chance to say 'iss ne qom ki beti ke sath boht bura kia'.

BTW shareefs are also from Kashmir.

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Have you ever had 'shab-daig' Kashmiri traditional dish.. I think Hareesa (a dish like haleem) is also from Kashmir

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Issi liye khaanay, peenay ke shauqeen hain ?

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Punjab ki gardan par sawar hain, phir bhi kashmiri hain :D

That is one good dish as well, lamb and fish are integral part of Kashmiri cuisine, beef wasn't there until recently, rise of militant islam brought beef in Muslim homes and veganism in Brahmin homes now :)

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

yes Bano Qudsia (a Kashmiri herself) says that if we Kashmiris were not killing our time in making shab-deg, we could have got Kashmir freed :D

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

They sometimes use slogans 'Jaag Punjabi jaag' as well

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

Kashmir is still free, you are free to go to Kashmir, but you are not free to comeback, either the terrorist or security forces can kill you :D

Re: With Love, PhD from Kashmir

To larger extent yes, many of third generation Kashmiris don't speak their language and instead use Hindi, like Hindu Punjabis of Delhi who came to India after partition.
