What about the first teaching ‘come to what is common between us’? When we are not allowed to wish them ‘Merry Christmas’, how come will they allow us to go through the debate you are referring. One has to create comfort zone among those to whom he wants to preach. Remember feasts given by the Prophet to his relatives before conveying his message to them.

saying merry chirstmas is not for making comfort zone. people do it for their social and other environmental constraints.
