Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

We know that most followers of Christ consider Christ as the son of God. And thats the basic contention b/w muslims and them otherwise muslims believe Christ as a prophet too.
Now even in a country like US, we usually say “happy holidays” instead of directly complimenting for christmas, can we or can we not say “Happy Christmas” or “Happy X-mas”? I’ve noticed that some of the ulema call it a “shirk”.
But my point is, we arent confessing christ to be the son of God, we are complimenting on their celebration which is actually the day to celebrate birth of jesus, who is our prophet too.

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

I don’t think there should be any issue, but I am sure the ulema would be divided on this issue too. Anyways depends on the individual.

How about this?

i.e. as per Dr. Zakir Naik:

What people don’t realize that
when you are wishing
MARRY CHRISTMAS
you are
AGREEING
that Jesus Chris was born on the 25th of December
and
you are agreeing that he is begotton son of God…
*Na’uzubillah which is SHIRK.

^ this is one point of view you can find others too, no consensus on this issue

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

I avoid saying Merry Christmas…simply. I just say happy holidays. As muslims..i don’t think we are allowed to say Merry Christmas.

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

Same. I don’t care about we are not allowed to say Merry Christmas if we are muslims. But I just don’t say it because some of the people nowadays either don’t celebrate christmas at all or are agnostic and gets really annoyed when someone gives them a religious greeting or anything. Happy Holidays is fine

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

I am not agreeing to any of this. I am just saying Merry Christmas where Santa bring gifts and leprechaun pees. Zakir naik is just an extremist, racist douchebag imo

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

Happy holidays is better. Not all white/black people are christian so it suits everyone.

My Christan friends make an effort to wish me eid. If I am doing the same to them, then it’s just courtesy.

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

Merry Christmas to ALL Christian Brothers around the world and a very Happy New year to ALL…May Allah bring peace, happiness, good health, prosperity and clean environment to the humanity at large. amen

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

IMO only people who have no respect for others will not want to acknowledge the others’s sentiments and traditions. That is the beginning of intolerance whether committed by Xhristians, Hindus, Muslims or anything else.

In the US I see and hear a lot of Happy Holidays - companies and institutions started this trend because of so many holidays falling in a short duration (Thanksgiving, Hanukka, Christmas, New Year …). People picked it up some as mere habit without thinking much about it and some picked it up because it gave them an out where they or the wishee did not believe in a particular tradition.

Add to that there is pretty strong evidence that Christmas while associated with Christ’s birthday is far from his birthday and has more to do with Hallmark and Walmart revenue cycle!

But those who don’t want to say Merry Christmas because some religious leader (Zakir Naik in this example cited) said so is actually following the diktat of a human being and not that of their own God - after all one of Islam’s goal was to dis-intermediate God and religion from intervening human classes such as priests and monks.

When the so called ‘well read’ such as Zakir Naik and million others like him start assuming the role of arbiters they have created just that intermediate class, given the common man a lazy way to follow God through them and thus usurped the God for themselves.

Merry Christmas to all of you

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

I will say Meri Kismet! … sounds just like Merry Chrismas to the American ear

all kidding aside if it brings a smile on a fellow human being’s face it is well worth it!:k:

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

^ true…but not at the cost of your beliefs.

i know saying merry Christmas doesn’t violate Islamic beliefs as long as you do NOT believe what it may or may not imply.

vaise,

merii kishmas [raisin]

also sounds like merry Christmas.

We can choose to follow those behaviours that would have us divided or those that would bring unity…

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

Jesus is real , his birth is real, celebrating his birth is a real, his birth was a miracle we all believe in , irrespective of if he was born on 25th or not if you wish some merry Christmas how on earth you are confirming that he is begotten son of GOD? If we did not believe in Jesus at all then I would agree with this assertion. Like I would not wish someone on birth of any of their God or Goddess, that would be a shirk and promotion of shirk on my part.

I do too just because of the reason given by Pisiform below.

Agree to you 100 percent.

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

unfortunately zakir naik draws crowds with his speeches and the stupid audience likes the sound of his fluent garbage

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

I think people’s opinion that saying Merry Christmas is allowed is influenced by their social circle and their environment and that is not Islam-centric.

Re: Wishing the christians happy christmas? Allowed or no?

Can you make a case where it is explicitly disallowed?
