Even me I am from Bangalore. Nice to know that there are a lot of Kannada speaking guys out here.
Ella OK Mathey enu vishesha simply enjoy maadi..
Yen guru neev yeng idira yen vishya illa, yen enjoy maadadu bangalore ye chanag ittu wolle horgade bandaad mele enjoyment yalla yen illa. bejaar aagta ide.
haha that is so true! my driver in blr was so thrilled with my efforts to speak kannada. in the beginning, i was only able to say “AC on madri, AC off madri” but towards the end of my stay i’d graduated from elementary kannada he also introduced me to kannada music during my travels, and i am now hooked.. mungaru male, milana, savi savi nenapu… lovely music! i was shocked to discover that shreya ghoshal and sonu nigam had sung them!
getting back to ugadi.. during my childhood, we used to procure somet called mandige which was a crispy sweet roti, a bangalore ugadi specialty… it used to come in kilos… anyone know where that can be gotten?

dr., phd kannada :D,
these are pronounced exactly the way they are written right? Kannada is so different from Hindi, I don’t even understand one word. In that “yeng idiya” phrase, the yeng is pronounced the same way as that “yin yang” thing in chinese right?
And please tell me that these are not a bunch of swear words in kannada, I don’t want all of bangalore running after me with cricket bats:vivo:…i’ll take the risk.
thanks SOA:hugz:
Namkeen, you naming all those dishes made during ugadi is making my mouth water.
it's the hindu new year.. so yeah i think only hindus celebrate it.
people, we didn't mention onam here, isn't that the keralite new year? does it fall around the same time?
yeah blr rickshaw wallahs are something, but imo, chennai rickshaws are something else!
atleast blr has a fare pricing... those chennai fellas pull the fares out from their head... if they don't wanna go somewhere, they'll quote u some exorbitant price as though the seats in their rickshaw are gold plated or somet!
i think the nicest rickshaw wallahs are the mumbai ones. Most of the time, the mumbai ones almost always give you the right change back and never seem to overcharge you.
are there any ricks in mumbai? never seen any... in my area there are only taxis available..
but pune rickshaw wallahs are very honest.. even if it's 50p, they'll return it to you. once i forgot something in a rick, one of my shopping bags; and the guy actually drove back to return it to me when it discovered it an hour later!
Like stircrasy said, wouldn't you get jipped by the stores/vendors when you don't know the local language. I know i'll definitely get jipped once I go alone to one of those markets and I open my mouth:@:
first know the average prices, when you take a ricksaw (means auto ricksaw unlike in delhi and other northern cities there are no cycle ricksaw's in bangalore/hyderabad/mumbai) don't go on meter, tell the guy i want to go this place and i will pay this much
Bangloreans are very nice and friendly except to tamilians and north indians ( problem is this people come to bangalore and ask the local to speak hindi and says its national language) :CareBear:

yikes, we've come to a VERY sensitive issue of India, the whole national language thing. I really don't wanna get into it but honestly as much as I love my mother tongue, I think Hindi/urdu is a very sweet sounding, beautiful Indian language. So let's not get too much into that:p
btw, I have some family members that live in both north and south india.
Riks are there to loot money but you enjoy by just conversing with them.
Guess what all the film names you just mentioned, i have just heard of mangaru male, nad i must have max watched 5 kannada movies till date my knowledge and interest for kannada movies is negligible.
Yes the ugadi time sweeets i just love it i dont know the names of it but i can recognize them, i enjoy it a lot.
They are not bunch of swear words and just chill, bangalore is a kewl place i love bangalore and i dont mind being parochialistic when its with bangalore.
Regarding the pronounciation part, its kind of same but the accent is very important. For sure you speak all these words the local public will go ga ga over it.
Well just enjoy your stay in bangalore, for your information about bangalore
Traffic is pathetic, loads and loads of people around the main areas and overall very friendly people.
And yes yeng idiya is quite slang for elderly people its yeng idira.
Class 2 done i havent still received my tuition fees.

i think S India's the most developed part of the country. the cycle ricksaw are such a pain in the ass. the more quickly they are done off, the more better!

hhmm..there is no OFFICIAL National Language in India. Hindi is the Official Language, along with English. though, some ppl do fume that itz the unofficial National lingoo...

People of Bangalore and Pune have to be two of the nicest groups. Very pleasant people in general.
Even though I am Tamilian I have to agree with lakkis25's nasty comment about us - but not all Tamilians are that way - just the ones lakkis came across (hmmm!)
just kidding! I love Bangaloreans and do think, if we have to generalize, Tamilians are a bit more self centred and passionate than Kannadigas.
BTW HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Tomorrow (April 13) is our New Year too!
Normally we do a rasam made of dried flowers of the neem tree on that day. wonder if anyone else do that
