Wisdom of Imam Ali (A.S.)

Prophet once said I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate!

One Day a Jewish person came to Imam Ali (A.S.), thinking that since
Imam Ali (A.S.) thinks he is too smart, I’ll ask him such a tough
question that he won’t be able to answer it and I’ll have the Chance
to embarrass him in front of all the Arabs .

He asked “Imam Ali (A.S.), tell me a number, that if we divide it by
any number from 1-10 the answer will always come in the form of a
whole numberand not as a fraction.”

Imam Ali (A.S.) Looked back at him and said, “Take the number of
days in a year and multiply it with the number of days in a week and
you will have your answer.”

The person got astonished but as he was a Mushrik he still didn’t
believe Imam Ali (A.S.). He calculated the answer Imam Ali (A.S.)
gave him.

To his amazement he came across the following results:

The number of Days in a Year = 360 (in Arab)
The Number of Days in a Week = 7
The product of the two numbers = 2520

Now …

2520 ?1 = 2520
2520 ?2 = 1260
2520 ?3 = 840
2520 ?4 = 630
2520 ?5 = 504
2520 ?6 = 420
2520 ?7 = 360
2520 ?8 = 315
2520 ?9 = 280
2520 ?10= 252

One day another Jewish person came to Imam Ali (A.S.). He was
planning to ask Imam Ali (A.S.) such a question which would take
Imam Ali (A.S.) a long time to answer and because of that his
Maghrib Prayers would be delayed.

He asked, “Imam Ali (A.S.) you say you know everything in the world,
then tell me which animals lay eggs and which animals give birth to
their young ones”

Imam Ali (A.S.) looked back at him smiled and said, “The animals Who
have their ‘EARS’ outside their body give birth to their young ones
and the animals who have their ‘EARS’ inside their body lay eggs”

A person was about to die, and before dying he wrote his Will which
went as follows …

“I have 17 Camels, and I have three sons. Divide my Camels in such a
way that My eldest son gets half of them, the second one gets 1/3rd
of the total and my youngest son gets 1/9th of the total number of
camels”

After his death when the relatives read his will they got extremely
perplexed and said to each other that how can we divide 17 camels
like this.
So after a long hard thought they decided that there was only one an
manin Arabia who could help them: “Imam Ali Ibne Abi Taalib (A.S.).”
So they all came to the door of Imam Ali (A.S.) and put forward
their problem.
Imam Ali (A.S.) said, “Ok…I will divide the camels as per the
man’s will.”

Imam Ali (A.S.) said, “I will lend one of my camels to the total
which makes it 18 (17+1=18), now lets divide as per his will”

The Eldest gets 1/2 of 18 = 9
The second one gets 1/3 of 18 = 6
and The Youngest gets 1/9 of 18 = 2
Now the total number of camels = 17

Then Imam Ali (A.S.) said, “Now I will take my Camel back”

Masha'Allaah, indeed 'Ali - radheeAllaahu anhu - was a wise man and from amongst the most noble of Companions.

Sheraz, do you have references for those narrations?

Mashallah, so just imagine what the city would hold for us. May allah grant us the power and wisdom to follow the teaching of Rasul Allah (pbuh).

It's amusing how these stories have jewish characters that end up looking like fools. My guess is that this element to the story is a recent addition.

Mashallah, just imagine what the creator of BOTH OF THEM holds for us.. May Allah grant us the power and wisom to follow ALLAH's teachings , pray for the souls of the departed wise people and do some righteous deeds of our own, least we look stupid in the end like the Jewish people in these stories.

Despite that, some ppl still hold is as shierk for muslims to ask Hazrat Ali for help.

I respect ur faith but does sifarish works in front of Allah.. as if it works why not ask for his last prophet Muhammad (PBUH) rather than any body else..the ya Muhammad (PBUH) would do but I think even Prohet Muhammad (PBUH) told to ask only Allah directly.. that was the very reason he didnt wanted anybody to make image of Muhammad (PBUH) so that peopel wont turn to the picture and start asking for help..

sure why not..sifarish would work if its coming from the Lion of Allah..just because we love Imam Ali doesnt mean we dont love Prophet..but unfortunately some ppl did not obey Prophet..and why only pick on shias? pick on umar who used to always ask Ya Ali Help..why didnt he just contacted Allah directly?

tell me just one thing..if we praise Imam Ali why do ppl get jelous..seriously i really want to know..thihs topic was bout wisdom of Imam Ali..not everyone has to become His enemy you know

Jealous of Imam Ali? Are you kidding me? He was dear to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), if anything he should be praised.

I don't think there's a question of jealousy, rather i think we as Muslims should ask Allah Subhana Ta'ala directly for whatever we want because He is the sole Giver. There shouldn't be any 'waseela' in between, but as soon as that comes into play there's a very fine line between praising Imam Ali (A.S.) and then considering him something higher.

Forgive me for asking but didn't you, some time back, have a custom title as 'Ya Ali madad' ? Also, when you make Imam Ali (A.S.) a waseela, how do you articulate what you want from Allah Subhana Ta'ala ?

Well I was raised saying:

Ya Ali madut

Ya rasool Allah

Ya Shiekh (name)

Ya Nabi and so on

I dont see anything wrong with mentioning a name of a beloved of Allah and his prophet in our cries for help or our prayers. WE only ask through them of Allah, I think that Brother Sheraz (?) said that, but I’m not sure what a “waseela” is. :frowning:

Is that an unIslamic stance? :wonder:

jealous of hazrat Ali (RA)? .. how can anybody be jealous oh great Hazrat Ali (RA)? Plus Hazrat Umar (RA) didnt asked Hazrat ALI (RA) to ask something from Allah! as ur doing it.. he always discussed with Hazrat Ali (RA) for seeking advice in religious matters as its an integral part of ijmah.. and how did Hazrat Ali (RA) asked.. u guess .. directly from Allah! so did Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and so did Sahaba karam (RA) .. so we should follow Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Hazrat Ali (RA) and all other Sahaba Karam and ask from Allah!

ok how about this..I will ask Imam Ali's help to get me closer to God and u dont have to..hum apni jaga khush aap apni jaga :) Imam Ali is my link to God and you dont have to have one..i never said its not good to ask Allah directly..i just prefer to go that way

~~The Holy Quran is the main source of guidance for every practicing Shia Muslim. This book is revealed by God, i.e., Allah. Second source is the "Narration's of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)", followed by the narration's of Holy descendants (Ahlull Al-Bayt). Some of these teachings are found in a book called "Peak of eloquence" ( Nahjul Balagha ) by Imam Ali (AS), and then As-Sahifa Al-Sajjadyya for Imam Ali bin Al-husain.~~

u know degas i just deleted what i wrote....yeh i am learning self control..ramadan say kuch to sabak loon right :)
