Winter Holidays

Since everyone’s on break from school/ college/ Uni, what do you all normally do or plan on doing while you’re on break?

Does anyone set up at Christmas tree? Or give presents to friends/ family/ colleagues? ?

Or do you guys hang lights/ decorate out side of your homes?

I’ve always wanted to get a tree, maybe even a fake one just so I could set it up and decorate. But then I realize what a pain it would be and decide to wait until next year. :cb:

My family and I normally spend most of our time together - Watching movies/ going out/ making everyone’s fav dishes for dinner.

How about you all**? :hmmm:**

Disclaimer: I understand this can be taken many ways, but this is not intended to be a religious discussion. Just an over all “what do you and/ or your family do during the holiday break?” :)*

Re: Winter Holidays

I wish I had a tree. Would be something nice and pretty in the house, plus the real pines smell up the home real nice.

Re: Winter Holidays

How can one say it has nothing to do with ‘religion’ or any ‘religious’ background?

Is it about African, Korean, Chinese, Japanese or Pakistani Traditional culture to put up a tree?

Re: Winter Holidays

Yea, exactly! I love the smell, too.

Because a holiday is a holiday. Everyone has birthdays and people who don’t plan on celebrating your birthday and/ or people who don’t share a birthday with you still wish you, right?

I was asking about what people do during the holidays and if they also decorate or do anything in or around the house to share in the holiday spirit.

Putting up a tree could be religiously significant to those who understand the meaning behind it. That doesn’t mean no one else can put up a tree or lights/ any other decoration.

Re: Winter Holidays

We don’t get a tree or put up lights or anything like that, but we do have family over on Christmas day because everyone has the day off. I spend a big chuck of the day watching NBA games

Re: Winter Holidays

Nothing special. If I’m taking the day off, I’ll enjoy the day off.

Re: Winter Holidays

Putting up a tree for any birthday is not a usual tradition

Putting up a tree on Christmas is. A religious (or pseudo-religious) act.

Not sure why do you have to try to confuse/mix up the act?

FYI: Even the word “Holiday” came from religious background.

All I wanted to say that there was no need to separate putting up tree from religion or religious ideas.

Re: Winter Holidays

Oh nooo…please don’t get like that again ^

She just wants to know how you spend the holidays. Answer her question and move on.

Re: Winter Holidays

i know where diwana put his tree up this year :hypo:.

Re: Winter Holidays

Is that a polite threat?

Re: Winter Holidays

I celebrate festivus with full attention to details.
if others on GS did, then we could have had airing of grievances.

Re: Winter Holidays

If I wanted to threaten you…is there a reason I’d do it politely?

Re: Winter Holidays

Re: Winter Holidays

Either I am out of town with friends or friends visit our house. fun both ways. But we don’t do lighting and stuff.

Re: Winter Holidays

Re: Winter Holidays

Ohhh I forgot about days off from work!! Lol

I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes decorating!

Spending time with friends and fam is what the holidays are really about, yeah?
The lights/ decor are just bonuses :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Winter Holidays

No days off :(. I miss school.

Re: Winter Holidays

All those shadi lights in Pakistan always reminded me of Christmas lights – that’s the best part of both shadiyan and Christmas: the lights.
