It will be my first winters in the UK, actually my first such terrible cold. Anyway, I’m a person who feels cold even in UK’s summer.
What essentials do I need to get through the days? ESP Jan/Feb/Mar with the snow as well…

Heattech leggings to wear under whatever you are wearing (i.e jeans, trousers, desi outfits) and vest tops or long sleeve tops for layering from Uniqlo:

Maybe even their socks.
A thin but warm cardigan also for layering (wool/cashmere). I have a basic cashmere cardigan that comes to between mid-thigh and knee that I always wear before I put my coat on.
Some decent boots in case it snows (and thicker knit socks).
Hat/Scarf/Gloves go without saying.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Yeah some thermal vests and leggings or tights.
I use ear muffs cos I don't like wearing hats.
Scarf and gloves.
A decent coat.
Wellies or boots for the snow.
Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
I will be visiting Uk in end of December, do I need to pack all this?? ![]()
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
it depends where your going to be staying ..London doesn't have much snow but the north does..
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
No, you could buy it when you are here!
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
And how is it these days? I dont yet have boots, just pumps so i will be able to survive right? :p
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Well it was snowing in London suburbs/ outskirts this morning and the 'real feel' is currently -5C so depends how much time you will spend outside and if you need to walk anywhere.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
wow. aside from basic gloves and scarf and boots, I don’t wear that much stuff for winters ![]()

it's actually pretty cold currently, so i would advise you to wear boots or thick socks.
because i'm always going in and out i layer up under my clothes so i can wear a thinner jacket because i can't carry a big coat around with me.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Not even that sometimes; hands in pockets and hope that my ears survive.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
I was out all day today. I wore leggings (as stoppit suggested) today underneath my skinny jeans and it kept me fairly warm. I had a vest, jumper and trench coat on and had to take off the coat at noon when the sun came out. Oh and I wore gloves too. And boots.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
wow! that’s a good news that Kinzz will be in the UK…just wow!!!
buy a portable igloo and u’ll be fine! ![]()
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Yeah, there was snow today which was totally unexpected!
Pumps are no good unless you want your feet to freeze into blocks of ice. I had tights and socks and shoes on and even then my feet were freezing cos I had to wait 20 mins for the delayed train :/
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Agree ! I was wearing ballet flats today and my feet were like ice lol.
For winters you should have really : a warm coat , scarf , gloves , hat maybe , some decent boots ( knee high/ankle boots for the rain and chilly days and wellington or boots with solid grip for the snow/ice) , those long knitted socks or normal socks at least, jeans and some thick jumpers/ cardigans. For mid feb/march a trench coat or jacket will be okay I think.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Okay so boots needed on top of the list! Any suggestions from where can i get reasonable ranged ones? I saw a few online at Marks & Spencer, NEXT and at BHS online as well. Any recommendations?
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
Its very cold in London right now...been snowing
NEXT do some good stuff...so do Clarks....depends what style you like
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
How about mid-January? I'll be in London for a weekend then. I know it's gonna be cold, but what kind of temperatures should I expect? Is it around 0° C or around -10/-15/-20° C?

It doesn't go below -2, -3 during daytime.
Re: Winter essentials for the cold in UK?
I’m going to buy these snow boots today. Normal boots aren’t meant for snow and you might slip and fall. I think it’s going to snow again…a lot.
