Hello all. I just installed the new microsoft windows 7 (next os after vista) on my computer and it is just amazing!

it is still in beta, but the build 7000 that i have is the official release that microsoft is going to release this month at the consumer electronics show to a select few people… and as far as i can tell so far, the beta version is completely usable, with all the features that vista has, and much more… and it is very fast, faster than vista

one of the most amazing features is that it installs all drivers automatically, without the user having to look for them, for example, my wireless card on my computer was automatically detected and the driver was installed automatically as well, and my graphic card’s driver was also automatically installed

another plus: all of the software that i have downloaded so far that is compatible with windows vista is also compatible with windows 7, such softwares as firefox, real player, microsoft office and many other softwares that i have tried, all work with windows 7

another helpful hint: if you install this on your computer, you will need some type of security software to guard against viruses, etc, even though there is built in security software from microsoft, but still… a very good, free solution for this is avg free edition, which has all the basic functionalities of detecting viruses, spyware, etc.. can be had from here: AVG Free - Download installation files & documentation

I been using the beta ever since it came out... Its a lot more stable and faster then vista itself.

EDIT: Never mind, it installs drivers automatically. That's pretty neat.

i hated vista any way, i still us XP SP2 :@:

and the u cant tell if its fast on an empty system, run it for few months and install some loads of crap and then tell us is she still fast :hehe:

What is the specs of your notebook on which u are running win7?

*Yea it looks like it but its way better thought out then Vista. Take for example the sidebar/linkbar in explorer. In Vista, its so badly designed that it serves very little purpose. In Windows 7, the linkbar on the side is not only functional but easily becomes part of your daily workflow and you really miss it when you work on XP. Same goes for taskbar, system tray, etc. Overall the UI in Windows 7 is not just an eye-candy. It takes Windows to a whole new level.

*WinXP SP3 is faster then WinXP SP2. I'm using it and lovin it. MSDN released it in April last year, 2008 that is.

True. Vista doesn't come close to a WinXP SP3 system in this regards. Still TCP/IP stack in Vista is way much better than WinXP SP3.

hehe, arey you can download an offline setup file as well.

And this is the offline version: 313 MB. I can see the download site without any problems. But then I am using Mac at the moment, perhaps this is the reason, why it has not tried to verify anything?

But try your luck. I am sure you one way or ther you will be able to do it without having to verify your installation. If not, use some computer with Linux or other OS to download this., :)

Look and feel of Vista, well if thats not an idea theft from OS X, then what is? :D

Acha yaar yay batao, how do you get @ sign and other symbols in Win XP from Mac KB? I tried couple of things, but it didn't work. So now the workaround is to save those symbols in a text file and copy paste whenever needed, :D

How did you solve this?

yess it does look a lot like vista, but it is much faster right off the bat

so far, i have installed lots of software on windows 7, and everything is super quick,, not the case with stupid vista, i remember i had to extract a small .rar file on vista one time and it took like fifteen minutes

microsoft has added lots of helpful little tweaks to windows 7 to make it much better

**1. Its innovation. Linux has been using workspaces for ages now. Even windows had MSVDM and OSX just introduced spaces. Should we call that a theft? No its general software progression.

  1. There was no traces of dashboard in Panther (10.3) and only when Tiger (10.4) was finally released in 2005, that we were able to see dashboard. I used earlier versions of Longhorn and it had widget/gadgets way before Tiger was released. One can say it was only after those leaked builds that the idea of dashboard was refined. So what do we call that?

  2. The recent networking papers published by Microsoft have revamped the TCP/IP stack and its obscenely fast on Vista. The knowledge is out there now and everyone else will be using it, only to later call Microsoft thieves.

  3. Working in Explorer and Finder is completely different. If anything Finder has a long way to go.

Yes, Bill did stole DOS and Windows 1-2-3 but by the time 95-98-2000 were released, things were looking up for them and now with people like Ray Ozzie and Steven Sinofsky in place, you can clearly see the integration between Windows 7 and Windows Live, but then again its general software progression.**

**Its been a while since I did this but I got mine working. The problem, as you may know, is with the keyboard drivers and the way Parallels presents the hardware to Windows. What I did was to run a driver updater on WinXP and install those drivers instead. I just have to look up what software was it. Also windows come with an on-screen keyboard which can help you type these symbols, if you don't like notepad :D

P.s. What I can see right now is that I have LogiTech Drivers installed, which one, it doesn't says. I'll have to look into it how I got it working.**

Exactly, I love how they've revamped the networking center. In Vista, its such a pain but its quite opposite in Windows 7.
