So its seen in western society that ladies do propose to the guy too and its acceptable however , I don’t think I’ve heard of it happening in our Desi Society .

Guys …How would you react to a girl proposing to you ?

Girls proposing or even a girl's family directly asking for a rishta is a big no-no in desi society. Sigh... the rules we set for ourselves....

I don't see any problem why a girl cannot/should not propose ...however as IceSoul said, it's the rules we have set that makes it a frowned upon thing.

If I was not interesting in marrying her, it would be a swift no followed up by a year or so of avoiding her. If I did in fact like her and was considering marriage I would be taken a back. I am traditional in that regard.

Very insightful…I guess in a way that could be perceived as proposing…so if a woman proposed to you lets say on a desi matrimonial site ( we shall assume you have posted your profile there and are single ready to mingle or are looking for Mrs.Mirch No.# 2 in your quest to complete a quartet :smiley: ) how would you look upon or consider that proposal ???

Hell no! I like modern, confident girls. Ain't no fun being all meek and conservative. If a girl proposes to me and I like her, I'd like her even more for proposing and accept.

I don't think it's possible for most girls to propose, although there are exceptions of course. Anyways, if a girl did propose, the aunties would be talking about her until their bones rotted!

From Islamic perspective, there is nothing wrong with it. Hazarat Khadeejah (RA) proposed prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon him) 1400 years ago. It wasn't "forward/desperate etc" act back then how it can be wrong now!
