Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
^ Let me know which you prefer driving over the snow: a minivan or an SUV!
If you want comfort, then you might as well get those pandra bach'on waali vans with parday and jhaalar inside like our mexican bros here.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
We don't have much snow where we live :Dand when we do, we have snow tires.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
But when did minivans become four wheel drive. It is not just the tire you know :)
Where do you live so I can move there? :p
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
It's ok TLK and Niksik, even if you guys own a van, you're still the coolest couple mashallah. You needn't feel bad.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
My husband would never buy a minivan. He says he would rather take the bus than spend a penny on a minivan!! As for more space, he told me there are other options like Acura MDX, Toyota highlander, Honda Pilot, Mercedes GL that all come equipped with 7 seats. So I guess no minivan for us. Plus we live in an area with a lot of snow so an SUV is a must for us.

I dont think there is any need to take each other's choices so personally.
7 seater SUVs are gas guzzlers, I dont like hard suspension SUVs as in long journey, person sitting at the back row starts feeling nauseous, and soft suspension SUVs are not really SUVs, they are 4 wheel drive vehicles but you cant do any off road activity.
Above mentioned are just my personal experiences and that means that SUVs (at least for now) dont suit my life style. When my kids are in teens, I might go for SUV.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
If I am ever forced to buy a minivan I will cry ![]()
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
Wait do minivans use less gas than SUVs? Our SUV uses so much gas and with gas being so expensive, we avoid taking it for long drives now!
I think the only people who are so vehemently against a minivan are people who are obsessed with cars. My husband is a car fanatic and thus doesn't like minivans, SUvs and most 4 doors! I just need something with 4 wheels and minimum maintenance!
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
^Ya if your suv has V6 engine then yap..gas guzzler. But there are SUVs with 2.0 or 2.4 which is not bad!
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
I have found this site to be very accurate in mileage: Find and Compare Cars
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
^ Yes, except the Mercedes R class or even x6 have very ugly (Bongi) look.
Don't know why there is a craze about a vehicle that has to look like a funeral home car.
they are not the best looking cars but better looking than minivans and better handling than SUVs.
ideally there will be something that has the looks the handling and the capacity.
that amigo, will be the holy grail
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
An SUV (or FUV, as l think of them...) is basically a pickup truck engine and body, except, the whole bed (the back portion of a truck) is enclosed and has seats in it. It's a truck that wants to be a van.
A minivan is a van with seats in it. It is a van that wants to be a station wagon.
Right or wrong, I like the way you described that. :)

Yes, combination of SUV and handling like a minivan or a sedan is difficult to achieve.
I mean, Toyota 4 Runner, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada, Q56, Lexus RX series, 470, 570, BMW X5, Mercedes GL or older M class etc. share common shapes and elegance.
The worst among these has been Mercedes M class and Toyota 4 Runner for handling on curves at high speed. But all SUVs's have some handling problems because of high center of gravity.
The best handling can be offered by Sedan class.
BMW 7 series boasted that for a while but SUV for its trend and utility superseded that with trade off of losing the the handling.
Honda odyssey is great for capacity and smooth handling but off course is not trendy as SUV and is not at higher end class among all........but higher end in all minivans.
(As an extra vehicle a family can have a minivan though, nothing wrong with that considering the use and comfort)
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
I agree with that plus of SUV (handling i.e) but in long journeys with kids, in and out is not the only issue. During driving, non-driving parent needs to do a lot of moving back and forth and I think because of the seat layout and height of the ceiling. minivans are better in that aspect than SUVs
abay yaar, english mein likha tha, I said i dont like minivan or SUV handling, they can not compare to cars.
I am not sure about the non driving parent doing a lot of back and forth. why not just pull over when u need to do something
its give and take, and I am not going to get a minivan because that once in a while long drive the few times u need to get to a small kid right away is just not a big enough issue. Plus with kids at 5 now, that is really not needed.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
No, I love SUVs instead. Don't like want minivans despite 2 kids due to how minivans look and how they are perceived.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
I will check back with all you SUV lovers once you have a baby whose car seat needs to be loaded/unloaded into the car. With one hand carrying the seat (or baby in your arm) and other hand clicking the remote so the door slide opens is a convenience that only minivan can offer
I have 2 kids and still got the SUV each time we changed cars and yes we have driven minivans too with the kids ( rental cars). Minivans are practical yes but SUVs do the job too.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
u know what is better than a minivan in terms of convenience then, an RV :)
you can make biryani and haleem on a long drive, take a nap..(not the driver of course), play puttputt, or carrom board, maybe even foosball.
do a conga line, or some bhangra...u can do yoga or tai chi, you can send kids into timeout. etc

I thought you are comparing SUV with minivan handling :D
I agree that no one (not even an adult) should be moving back and forth inside a moving van but on long journeys, it does happen and at least in our case (like kids want some cookies from a bag that is sitting in the luggage area), instead of stopping the van at a rest area, we do that :D..
and even our younger one is 5 now and as I said above, when kids hit the age wherever no car/booster seat is required, maybe SUV would become my vehicle of choice.
Re: Will You Ever Buy A Minivan?
the only thing worse than a minivan is a station wagon
