I will check back with all you SUV lovers once you have a baby whose car seat needs to be loaded/unloaded into the car. With one hand carrying the seat (or baby in your arm) and other hand clicking the remote so the door slide opens is a convenience that only minivan can offer

I like the Mazda 5.... its a minivan but looks cool.

I don't like mini-vans at all. We have this perception that mini-vans are for soccer moms or for mom and dad with 3-4 kids. Its a no for me but for all the reasons TLK mentioned if we buy one its going to be just necessity based...

did it with twins, and chicago winters. begum has an SUV, and I have a saloon/sedan.
minivan offers minor conveniences that SUVs and cars dont, but after the few seconds u save with that opening door, you are spending considerable time behind the wheels driving the thing. The day I find a minivan that handles like a Mercedes CLS, I may change my mind :)
personally I would not go for an SUV, at most it would be a hybrid Infiniti fx45, bmw x6 type of thing. handling wise suv and minivans can not even come close, and the time that I am not hauling kids around i want to have some performance. if i have to get something with more seating capacity I would rather go for a station wagon like a mercedes R class.
Now minivans definitely have their pluses, and I would not mind driving one or having one for family trips, an additional vehicle basically, but since I have one car I have to balance all my and my passengers needs and preferences.

^ Yes, except the Mercedes R class or even x6 have very ugly (Bongi) look.
Don't know why there is a craze about a vehicle that has to look like a funeral home car.

Never ever am I letting my kids roll in a mini-van. Even a wheelbarrow would do but not a mini-van. I'm sorry but they're just sooooooo ugly.
I used to say the same thing...but now times have changed :D
sigh let's just hope I don't. I judge a car by it's butt and minivan butts are way too curvy for my liking.
Plus why would I take the car seat in and out of the car, once it's in there it stays there. That's how most of my friends do it.

An SUV (or FUV, as l think of them...) is basically a pickup truck engine and body, except, the whole bed (the back portion of a truck) is enclosed and has seats in it. It's a truck that wants to be a van.
A minivan is a van with seats in it. It is a van that wants to be a station wagon.

Hey sara, let me describe it in your terms. A minivan is a long thela that has the same wheel size approximately, but the base is lower so it is like the thela wala is sitting on the ground and the aloo palak saib are at your knee length. Now put a tent around the thela to enclose it and you got a minivan.

I agree with that plus of SUV (handling i.e) but in long journeys with kids, in and out is not the only issue. During driving, non-driving parent needs to do a lot of moving back and forth and I think because of the seat layout and height of the ceiling. minivans are better in that aspect than SUVs
