Will not write Letter: PM to SC

What would be next? Will the PM be convicted for contempt of court and what impact will that have on our political system?

Will not write letter, Gilani tells SC

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has submitted his reply before the Supreme Court (SC) in a pending contempt case, Geo News reported.

Barrister Gohar, an associate of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, submitted the reply signed by the premier himself, in SC’s Registrar Office. The reply comprises of 24 pages and has 84 paragraphs.

While refusing to write letter to the Swiss authorities, the premier contended that the president cannot be thrown before a foreign court and requested the court to show restrain.

The reply asked the court to refer the letter issue to the parliament like the judges’ appointment matter. The PM also asked the court to withdraw March 08 order passed in his absence.

On the last date of hearing, a seven-member bench, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk had told Aitzaz that he could submit a written reply on behalf of his client or apprise the Registrar Office if the accused contemnor wanted to appear in person.

The bench made it clear that in any case, the hearing would be resumed on March 21.

During the previous proceedings, Nargis Sethi, Secretary, Cabinet Division and the Ministry of Defence, had appeared and recorded her statement in support of the defence counsel.

Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq also questioned Nargis Sethi.

The PM was indicted for contempt of court after his failure to address a letter to the Swiss authorities requesting them to re-open closed graft cases against his party head and President Asif Ali Zardari.

The court had issued a number of repeated directions to the federation to implement its order on annulled NRO, especially para 178 of the detailed judgment, dealing with the Swiss cases.

During one of his recent addresses, PM Gilani had clearly indicated his intentions when he stated that by writing the letter he could be charged with treason under the Constitution and he would prefer to go to jail for contempt which was only six months.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

letter likhna burri baat hai ..bachpan mein bhi abba sai pitta tha khat liknai per:teary1:

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Gillani is behaving like a classic goon who is effectively challenging the SC, backed by his party. I think the court may tack on additional charges against Gillani owing to his public utterances regarding the case and the SC in the Mailsi jalsa and elsewhere.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

What a 3rd class government we have! I bet Gillani, the uneducated goof does not even know the basic difference between the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary!

Is there any hope left for us Pakistanis or will we always be lead by idiots? :teary1:

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

:k: well said. PPP aaisay phokhat main seats nahin leti. Its leaders have given their lives for upholiding the dignity of democracy.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

I am sick of this “given-their-lives” mantra :smack:

If sacrificing life is prerequisite to get power, than why you beat your chest when armymen rule the country? No one has given more sacrifices than the military!!! Now you will scream at the top of our voice that power isn’t meant for armymen. Fine. Accepted. But you too accept that power isn’t a birthright for Bhuttos as well. Just when you will talk about power for performance??? Give us a break man for heaven’s sake!!!

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Idiot is a soft word for him. He is a dolt, or maybe a dumbhead or moron perhaps.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

The prime minister says in his letter to the SC:
There are other ironies. This hon’ble bench itself issued the show cause notice to me. It thus initiated the prosecution, itself. If not prosecutors, the hon’ble judges gracing this hon’ble bench are certainly in the nature of the complainants. Yet they sit as judges and try me in the same case.
He says again:
...the issue should either be sent to parliament because it was a matter of grave public concern or be left for the people of Pakistan to judge.
On the one hand he is accusing the bench of being plaintiff and jurors simultaneously, on the other hand he wants the matter to be sent to the body which does the legislation. Someone please tell this pinhead that the same constitution he talks about in every breath, says the final authority of interpretation of the statute is the supreme court of the country and not the parliament.

And what is parliament by the way? It's a foursome club of Zardari, Altaf, Shujaat and Asfandyar. They will be more than willing to make Zardari and Gilani lifetime president and premier of the country.

And if this Gilani's case should be sent to the parliament, than Babar Awan's case should also be referred to either parliament or to people. Close all the courts and let the parliament assume the role of the supreme court.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Pakistan is a strange country where the Parliament wants to do SC's job, and in return they want SC to do parliament's job (with regards to abductions and killings being pinned on the security agencies).

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

I don't think they are happy with the SC even for doing this. Looks like they prefer street justice, like Sialkot lynching incident.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Or maybe far too smart a person than he looks. :K337: Yousuf Raza is an expert at doing an impression of an orphan kid, but deep down inside, he is as smart a cookie as they come. There is a reason why he is the prime minister, and not you.

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Because I am not a jiyala and because I am not a crook!

Re: Will not write Letter: PM to SC

Exactly.:hat: Same with me. Though I can pretty much look maasoom and innocent when I want to, just like our PM/peon.
