samb you are a true gentlemen. Good for you. Silly insecure people want their wives to sit at home, so they don't feel overshadowed - that's what it comes down to.
Ewww.... I don't wanna get nasty !!

Re: Wife's Earnings
woah, behave.
I'm not insulting women who stay at home. I'm insulting men who think its their right to tell all women that they should all sit at home. YOU are making generalizing statements here. If that's what you want in YOUR spouse, that's one thing. But when you say women, generally SHOULD stay at home, you're making normative claims, and that affects women like me. So...yeah.
lets behave
sheyn, if you're running into some family that wants to know how much you make, I think they're an anomaly. Usually, Pakistani men either
a. don't want their women to work, because somehow that shrinks the size of their ding a ling by at least 50%
or
b. they'll "tolerate" you working (as if you need to ask permission), just that you're home by a certain time so they can get their dinner.
I have no clue who wants to know money. Other than greedy families who have their eye on a $ sign.
Eh, maybe some families are moving in that direction, especially since we have so many more women who are professional high hitters on the market now.

PCG, I wouldn't go that far... I suppose I have selfish/materialistic reasons for taking the position I've taken. but why would anyone be pissed off by the success of their spouse? a spouse's success is one's own success.. one should be happy for them...
snowy_winter, we all go through phases where conservative, "traditional" values are very important to us. sometimes though things change over time... (sorry for getting your nick wrong there...)
Re: Wife's Earnings
^ "Snowy-tiger" love the new nick bye the way :) I think I'll change it to that... lolz
I was trying to act as a devils advocate here, but its a fact that our ever stagnant society is changing. The equality women demanded is now here but with few consequences. Doesn't matter how hard you cry 'I am old fashioned' because people have already started manipulating your just desire for their own selfishness.
Now whats the solution? - Educated women have to be really wise while choosing life partner as chances of being used are higher than ever before. - Family protocol and roles decided by men, now should be decided by mutual agreement of both. - Open dialog between both parties to discuss financial conditions and how they can work as a team to improve it.
We can always add more to this list. But point is that world has moved on, so we better rearrange our priorities rather than crying over spilt milk.
Nice Namaan
It would be her decision, if she wants to be a housewife then sure why not. and if she wants to work then I don't have any problem either, as long as there is a balance between professional and domestic life.
I wouldn't look at the wifes earning at all. I would rather die of shame than to fall that low. Life without honour is nothing. Maybe I am just old fashioned.
There are still a few good men left out there after all ! ***
Re: Wife’s Earnings
^ Good men usually change after marriage… ![]()
Both of them are not married. SAve your compliment for someone who is married and say what they just said … ..lol
Re: Wife’s Earnings
Well at least they are not out to settle scores or crying equality to cover up for their greed for more money ! ![]()
Re: Wife’s Earnings
^ Kehnay se kiya hota hai? Easier said than done.
One of my BIL said a lot of blah blah n blah before marrying my sis. Now sometimes I feel we have mistakenly wedded a different guy to her ![]()
Re: Wife’s Earnings
FT so if you can’t believe what they say either way , I guess its better not to marry at all ![]()
Re: Wife's Earnings
^ nahin shadi kar lo aik baar. One should take this risk at least once in whole life ... :D also one should taste all spices of life. Dont miss on this one specially ... ;)
Re: Wife's Earnings
Sheyn - i hadnt finished my education when i got married a yr and a half ago.. but that didnt affect my husbands' decision to marry me in any way - even now im totally free to work or stay at home.. whatever I choose to do - but I totally know where your coming from with this question, the only problem is we wont ever know until we start a life with that person - you cant avoid marriage just because a few men have managed to taint the image of "good" men in society, on the other hand having faith in Allah and asking Him for a husband who is pious and truthful is something thats definitely upto a woman..

Mysti is right.
