Ali an interesting pint about the names of heroines of Shah Latif's poetry. All the seven soormis (heroines) names (Marvi, Sassi, Noori, Leela, Sorath, Sohni, Moomal) mean moon. Some names like (Marvi, Sassi) simply means moon and others like Noori, Moomal means having face like Moon.

Sassi was definitely a Muslim charcter as she was thrown in river like Hazrat Musa, because her Brahmin parents were told by astronomers that girl would marry a Muslim (Punhoo - Baloch prince of makraan). She was later brought up by a Muslim Laundrer (Dhobi)

There are confusion about the religion of Marvi who was abducted by Umar Soomro, as the most of the chaarcters including her parents got local names which hide the religious identity of the characters. Moreover, Thar (the area where this story belongs) is still a Hindu majority area. One thing about being her Muslim is her caste Panhwar. Today, we don't see any Hindu Panhwar, but again Panhwar related to the profession of cattle farming that can be done by any person from any religion.

yes Thar got many Hindus todate. Even the dialect of Sindhi spoken in Thar is difficult to understand by other Sindhis. I can't understand 'KhaRi neem ke neeche' properly

If I'm not wrong, most of the hindus reside in Sindh, Like Khairpur, Thatta, Hyderabad and ofcourse Karachi.

its really great to see many Hindus have made a big name in various fields, like former Chief Justice of Pakistan or famous designer Deepak Parwani are one of them.
