Good old desi dawaats like Bismillah , Ameen , Aqeeqa , Khatna are not in vogue any more in desi community living abroad . These are the same folks who look for lame excuses to throw parties to flaunt their wealth.

We still do have them but the flavors are different and we've added many more. :D
I've seen so many aqeeqahs of kids who've reached puberty...and you wonder why a parent would want to do that? It has no purpose, except that it's a way of spending money and receiving gifts.

anther reason that we notice the nonexistence of such dawats because many desis find it convenient (and cheap 
) to just send money to Pakistan for aqiqa etc etc

Bismillahs, ameens, valimas for completion of the haj, these are big deals in my family. Yes, it is easier to send the money for the aqeeqah to Pakistan/India especially since the meat can be distributed to the needy.
