Re: Why ‘Xaenab’ and not ‘Zainab’?
I recently read that turkish people knowingly misspell / mispronounce names of their people as Mohamet / Ahmet instead of Muhammad or Ahmed, due to respect.

That is sad that they gave such a beautiful name, such a ridiculous spelling. They should be ashamed of themselves
Re: Why ‘Xaenab’ and not ‘Zainab’?
I used to think geen instead of jeem… ![]()
Xaenab us just trying too hard to be “kewl”.
Mogahed might be mujahid, but in Egyptian Arabic they don’t say “jeem” as the “j” sound. They turn it into a “gaaf” sound. So the word “jummah” they pronounce it as “goomah”. So Yasmin Mogahed is spelling her name in English how it’s pronounced in Arabic for her.

Re: Why ‘Xaenab’ and not ‘Zainab’?
its not miss-spelled. thats how they pronounce most of the names. D is usually replaced with T. but not always. i don’t know the rule when it will be replaced and when not.
like پ of urdu/turkish/persian is replaced with ب in arabic (but due to different reason)
