Birken’s bag. Those things are ugly… i’m sorry they’re not ugly, they are SUPER UGLYYY and they are freaking expansive as anything. For 5000 pounds (not even dollars) I can buy 50 calfs and make a bag myself. Why do people waste so much money on such an ugly bag when you can buy a decent calf sking bag for like 400$ thats pretty good quality and if it breaks down in a couple of years you can buy 10 of em for the same price.

Gaia the thing is that you can buy a 2000 pound Chanel bag (thats wasteful spending too if you ask me) but that would probably be the same quality and would last you the same amount of time as a birken's bag or however way you spell that thing. So why does anyone have the need to spend 4 grand more and buy something that ugly just as a status symbol.
I'd be lying if I say that I would never buy one of those em. As I told syraa yesterday if my sister is sad and depressed and she tells me that a birken's bag would make her happy i'd buy it for her and then feel really guilty inside. But personally speaking I would never anything as such for my own personal use when something that is as big of a status symbol and same quality is about 3-4 grand cheaper.

My personal opinion is, those uber expensive bags bring exclusivity with them. If you buy them, you belong to a super rich club and can give pearcing looks to people when they lustfully look at you. You also have to look at the target market for these kinds of bags. It's either the highly rich celebrities, business women/folk or people that are really successful at their jobs and can afford to buy one.
If you have that much money, means you can buy one and still have enough money to fulfil your charitable contributions. Then no need to feel guilty. Oh and not a lot of common women can afford 5000 pounds bags. Only those buy, who can afford it. So by opening this thread here in Fashion, you are not really venting to the right audience, since I don't think so many have 5000 pounds to spare on a handbag.
Now, I can buy these bags but I don't find them attractive to begin with. My three most hated designer labels, Hermes, Berkin and Todd's.
I am contended with my LVs and Fendis. I would rather buy 2 Canon 5D Mark II's instead of a Berkin bag. It's the same price.

^ Birkin isn't a label...it's a bag belonging to the Hermes brand. So it's not seperate from Hermes.
Ali, you say the bag is ugly but that's your opinion...I'm sure some people find the bag beautiful.
You never know...someone may have dreamed of owning a Birkin as soon as they can afford to (as superficial as that may sound to you) It's just the same as someone dreaming of buying a certain car as soon as they can afford it. If they worked hard for the money...you can't tell them how best to spend that money.
I agree though...that money can be spent on more important things because when you look at the bigger picture a bag really isn't that important.

I love how charitable contributions automaticaly come into play with having an expensive bag, grand wedding, etc.!
Libran- I see what you’re saying, but for someone who can afford a $5000+ handbag, thats most likely just pocket money to them. So since there is no financial difficulty thay have no reason to feel guilty.
As far as calling it ugly, I disagree, I think its beautiful

I guess ugly and beautiful is just an opinion. I am not trying to say that you have to give the difference to charity. All I am saying is that to me it doesn't make any sort of sense and yet people are buying them
