Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Karachi was too far from GHQ.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

^ haha... nice one Ajju!

I would request not to bring religion into this. Even though what you said may be your personal opinion, the decision to move capital was not taken on religious grounds.
The reason capital was shifted was political. Using religion card to justify political actions will only exacerbate people on receiving end. Ask Bengalis.

The hadith can be interpreted in variety of ways, and it will not help us achieve a consensus. Because how people define a big city is based on individual's liking.

See Musharraf never shifted to Presedent House Islamabad. He lived in Army House Rawalpindi. They were afraid of going away from GHQ. How Ayoub can live away at Karachi.

This hadith is clear in itself and needs no interpretation. I would also request you not to bring Bangalis again and again. They are gone, now. Well no one give reasons what ''taqleef'' benglis had to shift
the capital within West Pakistan. Was Karachi in East Pakistan?
Again, 38 years have passed. Why we are analysing these things now.
You plz tell is not it blessing to have a new city. Well forget religion, from all the points of City Planning/ Civics it is an accepted fact that building Islamabad was a right descision taken at right time.

why do ya have to bring Mqm and its goons in each and every reply related somehow to karachi ?

The Margala hills of Wadi e Pothohar were not selected for new capital only because GHQ was near. A special commision was formed consisting of Goelogists, Scientists, Architects, Town Planners as well as politicians to suggest the proper place. They moved all around the country, analysed different places, studied geographical location, climatic conditions, weather, and Geological conditions. The Commision [consisting of some foreigners also] unanimously gave discision in favour of Margala.
The Government surveyed the area & presented a master plan.Suggestions were sought from the public to give an apprpriate name to this city.Thousands of names were sent. Most of the names suggested were like AYOBIA AYOB NAGAR AYOB ABAD etc. Some names associated with Quaid e Azam were also suggested. But the name ISLAM ABAD was selected and announced on 24 February 1960.
This name was suggested by a retired School Headmaster Abdur Rahman Amritsari from Arif Wala Town Commite High School. He was promised a plot in Isloo.A few roads were built initially. A few Govt. Quarters and a small market was constructed. Meanwhile, a girl was born to a Govt. Security Guard named ABPARA.So the market was named abpara market. Today ABPARA is the busiest trade centre of Isloo.

Please stop talking about ahadith, because the decision was not taken on religious grounds.
I quoted earlier the "takleef" Bengalis had with the shifting of capital. They wanted capital to be in E. Pak in the first place, but they objected even stronger for selecting the new site for capital because now they first had to reach Karachi port and then travel all the way in up country to reach the capital. Bengalis will be brought in discussion because they were part of Pakistan at that time.

I am not anti-Islamabad. This is your imagination. If you think I want the capital to shift back to Karachi then you are dead wrong. Karachi does not need it. Neither do NYC, Sydney, Toronto, Shanghai, Lahore, and Mumbai.

If decision to shift capital resulted in adding fuel to East and West Pakistan tension, resulting in break up of my country then I would not call such decision a right decision. It may be a good decision today when we are only half the original country, but not at the time when we were one.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Please Calm Down If you felt, I am sorry for my words. I was trying to clear what actual benefits Pakistan has today bcz of Isloo. I want may be I am wrong] people to stop discussing Bengalis again and again. I, mean, it's of no use now. Shifting of Capital as according to you may be A SMALL FACTOR but Bengladesh was created
because of many other more important and major reasons. It's a minor one.
Well I never said that there were any religious grounds for this shifting. I only reffered to this hadith to strengthen my point of view.
By ''anti-islamabad'' my idea was different. But I am sorry to use this word and I am feeling bad about it now & have edited my previous post.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

People who want to leave out Bengalies out of Pakistan discussion should remember this:

  1. Muslims league was formed in Dhaka
  2. Pakistan came into being due to votes and most of the votes came from the Bengali Muslims.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

DK Khan was the best place to be Pakistan capital: the centre of Pakistan and its standard times passes from there.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

A capital should be farther away from the border to protect the government from attack from foreign enemies. The location of Islamabad is actually too close to the volatile Indian/Kashmir border area. An Indian plane can reach Islamabad in a couple of minutes. The location, when chosen, was a huge inconvinience for the eastern half of the country. The reasons were political, proximity to GHQ in Northern Punjab, close to NWFP and Kashmir were important factors at the time.

Swat was the best option then!

Because youre such an ardent fan of their charm j/k. Seriously, whose crying about the 'Talibunnnization of KArachi' these days, the 'number 1' ruling party? who else?

As if I care, or made any efforts to hide the 'multi'. But congrats for finally figuring out, what was so obvious. If you have a problem with that, please feel free to contact the admin :)

But now same Bangladesh rejects your two-nation theory your ideology
they have burned your Islamic Crescent Flag
it's a secular state now
it's more closer to India
it hates Pakistan
it's QuaideAzam is Mujeeburahman Shami not Jinnah
STOP LIVING IN PAST

Finally, a sensible answer. Bottom line, Islamabad was nothing before it became the capital. Most people who live there arent native to that area in the first place, so everyone posting these stupid conspiracy theories, stop burning with so much jealousy (its not good for you) and recognize the strategic importance this city has for the country. For those of you who are so worried about where the GHQ is, can you tell me why the Pentagon is located in Wash DC?

WHAT'S D K KHAN

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Dera Ghazi Khan.

Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Shifting of capital from Karachi to Islamabad was a pure biased action. This is obviously clear from the fact that with the shifting all the major departments have been moved to Islamabad from Karachi but many headoffices which were in Lahore were never shifted to Islamabad. Examples are Railways, WAPDA, PTCL Accounts Office etc.

Here we are talking about history. And these are later events.
