What do you think? What were the reasons?
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
For the same reason as Capital was moved from New York to Washington D.C.
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
No Only because Pak Army wanted this
and shifting of capital away from Cost city became one of the reasons of sepration of East Pakistan.
For the same reason as Capital was moved from New York to Washington D.C.
hello,
Can you please elaborate on the reason?
As far as I know, NYC never was the capital. Washington DC was chosen for the sake of unity. Soutern states did not like the capital to be in a northern state. And since Northern states were the winners so they listened to them, and agreed on the capital to be in a southern state.
shifting of capital away from Cost city became one of the reasons of sepration of East Pakistan.
I have heard about it but I have not seen any reference of htis claim.
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
“New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790”
source: New York City - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
what exactly is the point of looking back?
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
Pasha stop posting silly conspiracy theories. This is taken from the article on capitals from Wikipedia. Jadugar is right.
Many present-day capital cities, such as New Delhi, Abuja, Ankara, Brasília, Canberra, Astana, Islamabad, Ottawa and Washington, D.C. are planned cities, purposefully located away from established population centres for various reasons, and have become gradually established as new business or commercial centres.
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
as far as the cities list above the one that sticks out is new dehli. how far is new dehli from old dehli though?

That does not make any sense, can you elaborate why shifting of capital from coastal city to inwards made Bengalis think of breaking up?
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
It is most Non-Sense Thing i ever heard!!!
Bengalies got separated because Capital was shifted from Karachi to Islamabad!!!
Islamabad from defence perspective is a safer. Ayob Khan made an excellent move of moving capital of Pakistan from Karachi to Islamabad. Blockage of Karachi and and fear of invasion by sea made Ayob do it.
Its a good Move!
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
Okay .... so thesedays ... Karachi is much safer then Islamabad ... in regards of that fitna you people have up there in north !
so give it back to us .. will ya :)
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
Karachi was and still is a commercial capital of Pakistan. It is not advisable for a country to have overcrowded industrial city as capital. It was the same reason New Delhi was built in 1920s, Putrajaya and Canberra was planned and developed as seat of government of Malaysia and Australia repectively and Brasilia was made capital of Brazil in 1960s.
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?

Yeah, we have bhattakhoori, mobilesnatching, decoitary etc going on in Islamabad right? Did you care to look up the crime charts?
As for the 'threat up north', according to his majesty, the magnificent ruler/pir of Karachi the threat is more prominent in Karachi than Islamabad or anywhere else. Talibunnnizaaation of the karachi aah aah aah!
Re: Why was the capital moved from Karachi?
I tend to agree with what Data and Bitter Reality pointed out earlier. It's for geographical reasons. I was told by someone that reason for Islamabad being the capital is because of its location and being away from the coastal or otherwise border.
Only a security personnel or ex-official would know the real reason why. I personally think it's because in case of war, Islamabad is safer than say Lahore which is literally on the border or Karachi which again is on the coast and can therefore be surrounded much easily; whereas, Islamabad is well protected in a case of war i.e. Land Invasion.
Don't quote me on this. Just my personal opinion on why i think the Capital was moved.
Well, Bengalis really did not like the shifting of capital, because access to Karachi was easier for them than going all the way up West Pakistan.
From a Bangladeshi’s book:
Bangladesh: Past and Present - Google Book Search
There are few instances in the world history when a country built its new capital on a virgin soil. Due to such extravagence in spending money for the development of three places, all located in West Pakistan, as the central capital, the people of East Pakistan was deprived of not only the benfefit associated with the proximity of the capital, they also could not share any benefit out of the huge expenditure incurred by the government.
Shifting of capital was not the only reason of East Pakistan being separated. It was just one of the many reasons which made Bengalis think that West Pakistan does not care for them.
But it is correct that there were other advantages to West Pakistan by shifting the capital.
Spock Perhaps you have not seen 70’s Era and you can not feel pain of “Saqoot-e-Dhaka” Those days ships were a way of traveling for poors and it took weeks to reach from East to West and also remember that 55% of Pakistanis were from East Pakistan and the General shifted the capital close to his own town and close to GHQ. In the west proper place was D.G.Khan selected by someone perhaps Qauid-e-Azam.
From the Islamic point of view, buiding of Islamabad was a great service to nation.Holy Caliph Syedna Umer peace be upon him said
'' Do not let your cities become over-populated. When your cities expand wildly, build new cities.'' I don't remember the words but a similar hadith also exists.
Karachi has always been the hub of Business & Industry in Pakistan. It would have been a burden on our Financial Capital if it was compelled to work as an Administrative Capital as well. The population of Karachi is already sky-high.
Had it been the capital, the Law & Order situation would have been worse as compared to Islamabad. Many Studies have shown that it also helped Lahore
to be a better city. The migrations from thickly populated Punjabi rural areas towards Lahore, today, would have been 100 percent more if we had no Islamabad.
Islamabad the green beautiful heaven is centrally located very close to NWFP as well as Punjab. Every Pakistani must thank Ayoob Khan for this great work of national importance.
