Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

The entire Cold War was not a question of "Did Communism expand?", but what price was paid for that expansion. Ultimately the collapse of the Soviet Union was the result of expensive military adventurism that they could not afford. The US challenged expansion at ever corner and extracted such a price that Communism stalled. Communism collapsed because the economic cost of constantly challenging the US could not be afforded given the poor productivity of Communist centralized control. The Russians got an economic bloody nose at every one of these confrontations. They eventually bled to death, and the Chinese decided to adapt and survive.

The Chinese will be undone by the internet. How soon will it be before people in China demand free and fair elections? The current leadership in China is pushing that day back, but it cannot be avoided.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

I posted this thread to all highlight the military defeats and humiliations that the US military has suffered since 1945, but you have very kindly volunteered the fact that it was the Soviets who actually won WW2, not the American’s. Thanks.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

read my other posts where i explain the vietnam war

glancing over my posts and then writing comments about it is not the best way to debate me

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

What's the point of this thread? Honestly I'm not quite sure.

At Present time despite Bush the U.S. remains a supreme power, those nations who the original poster listed as winners against the U.S. are for the most part in shambles. So please tell me, what is the point of this thread?

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

ohioguy and antiobl thank u for bringing sanity to this discussion.
The world would have been a very different place if US had not taken over the initiatives to stop the nazis or the exapnsion of commies.

In the end yeah there are conflicts which were tough and where there were a lot of casualties, but for every setback that US has faced the favourite countries of anti-US lobby reprsented on this forum, have had their butts kicked all over the place..and sadly many times in-fighting meant they successfully kicked their own asses.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

The US killed millions upon millions of people in those countries, so if any of them are in shambles as you claim then maybe that is the reason? Though you probably have never been to countries like Iran or Vietnam have you?

But there is no denying that the countries that the US is in today i.e. Afghanistan and Iraq are in worst shambles than they ever were.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

I have exposed many of your inconsistencies before, where your so-called debating skills have been exposed as rather weak.

But you did rightly admit that 90% of the German army in WW2 was defeated by the Soviets, whom we should be be eternally grateful for saving the world ftom Nazism.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

United States always had great intention for the world and future because the people ambition about that. Things like free speech, human rights and democracy are one the great things about American people. However, their 'democratically elected' leaders fail to fulfill the dream.

I am sick of argument 'Thank God for U.S, otherwise world would have been a different place'. Definatly different, but that different could have been good, I mean Vietnam to War on Terror. What is so good about it? What is so grand about Iraq? You can argue all you want about democracy but this is not the way to achieve. If, in the end, there is some democracy in Middle East, does it justify the casualties? Since when killing people 'is the price to pay'?

Superpower means that you go to war with every country in the region. Is the world free or their interests? Countries fear U.S not worship it for spreading democracy, one of the biggest failures of U.S as a superpower.

The problem is mindset, if we continue to think in a 'kicking ass' mode things like free speech, democracy and human rights are impossible to accomplish. Only dead bodies will pile up. Right now we are again in long and hard war on terror, no one will argue the premise but actions are corrupt, defile and wrong to say the least. We all know why they are there but when we are dead or old, our grand kids will think it was the right thing to do and the right price to pay.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

If you call clarifiying things which should be common knowledge to most people inconsistencies then go ahead. I deliberatley don't mention specific details because that will take an hour to explain. In case of WW2, I did give a very specific break down of German casualties during WW2.

And by the way, USA did provide massive amounts of Aid to the USSR. It gave the soviet union thousands of tanks, over 400,000 trucks, planes, ammonution, etc...

Infact every single truck in the Soviet Army was an American studabaker truck.

In Stalingrad where the Soviets were able to encircle the German 6th Army, it would not have been possible had it not been for the American lend-lease act which gave the Soviets the trucks to move their troops to envelop the German Army.

USSR did the bulk of the fighting but don't under-estimate the industrial capacity of USA in winning the war

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

^
Yes, we know the American's are rubbish at fighting, and other powers have the prowess in the battle field. The American's were bogged down in Asia on their own as well in WW2, and had to nuke Japan to "win" the war, rather than carry on fighting on man to man for every inch of land like the Soviets who the world owes so much for saving us from Nazism. Also, don't quote figures from the top of your head without any real unbiased links to back them up, as the moderator has already reminded you.

Well said. :k:

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

Rubbish in fighting........LOL

Buddy, you have no knowledge about World War II or anyother war the americans have fought in. Making such comments only shows you in a bad light.

The americans fought bravely in World War II. Germany under-estimated the Americans and paid dearly for it many examples such as Battle of el-Guttar, Battle of Normandy, Battle of Bulge, etc......

America joined WWII in december 7, 1941. It took a year for their forces to get ready and invade North Africa in November 1942, Italy july 1943, france june 1944, germany march 1945....

Where exactly were the Americans bogged down in Asia. Can you please give me some geographical locations, site of battles in which the Americans were bogged down in Asia?????

They destroyed the Japanese Navy and their island hoping campaign had liberated the Philippines and many islands in the Pacific....

If the Americans suck at fighting, then why was Yamamoto so concerned with starting a War with the Americans. He said after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, "I beleive we have awoken a sleeping giant and filled him with terrible resolve".

As for the Soviets. The reason they fought the way they did is because Germany killed over 25 million of its citizens. The Germans considered them sub-humans and fought a war of annhiliation with the Soviet Union. If the Soviets had a nuclear weapon in 1945, they certainly would have used it on Germany to end world war II.

I fully support the Americans in nuking Japan to end world war II. An invasion of Japan would have cost the lives of over 10 million Japanese and 1 Million Allied soldiers as compared to the 300,000 died that brought World War II to an end.

Yes the Soviets defeated Nazism but replaced it with Communism an equally dangerous ideology. Many Germans decided to surrender to the Americans rather than the Soviets.

Why is it that you have to ride on other people's coat-tails to blemish the Americans. Is that how desperate your situation has become?

What figures are that?

Please tell me...

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

Yup - a long list of American rubbish fighting.

1940 to 1945 - WW2 - Germany lost 90% of its military fighting the Russians and 10% fighting the Allies.

1950 to 1953 - Korea.

1961 - Bay of Pigs, Cuba.

1964 to 1975 - Vietnam.

1980 - Iran - failed military helicopter mission.

1983 - Lebanon

1993 - Somalia

2003 - Iraq.

2006 - scared of Iran.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

Yup, American 'fraidy cats were scared of losing a million soldiers in fighting Japan so they took the easy way out and nuked them. While the Soviets who did 90% of the figting in Europe lost millions of their soldiers and fought bravely to free the world of Nazism.

Re: Why so many American military defeats/humiliations since 1945?

It was the situation in which USA found it self and the number of troops Germany deployed against the Americans. You are actually going to blame USA for fighting 10% of the German troops ? LOL....

USA defeats the North Korean forces by invading Inchon and outflanking the NK troops and annhiliating them. China attacks and USA destroys the Chinese forces before their man power reserves are exhausted and they ask for an armistice....

Fighting done by Cuban nationalists and Not American soldiers. CIA failed to provide gureillas with air cover...

USA accomplished its objectives..
1964-1968: It destroyed the Viet Cong forcing the North Vietnam to directly send its military forces into Combat
1968-1970: USA trains the South Vietnamese Army and they defeat a North Vietnamese offensive into South vietnam
1970-1972: USA and South Vietnam again defeat the North Vietnamese offensive into South Vietnam
1973: US forces withdraw by March 1973 as South Vietnamese forces hold their own against North Vietnam and defeat their offensive into South vietnam
1973-1975: Due to Yom-Kippur War and oil embargo, corruption in high levels of Military and Political establishment, economic collapse following American troop withdrawl causes South Vietnamese military to collapse. In 1975, North Vietnam launches offensive to take Saigon in 1977, but they take the city in 2 months. So its not an American defeat but rather a South Vietnamese defeat.

Military accicdent

A bunch of terrorist blow up a marine barracks. Those marines were send there to help the lebanese people, but hey if they are going to attack them, then why help them...

100 US soldiers fight and kill over 1000 Somalis while losing only 18 soldiers. What a defeat...LOL

US has lost 2,500 troops, less than they lost while they invaded Normandy on June 6, 1944. But in any case, they are training Iraqi Soldiers, Iraqi government is coming into fruition and the only way the Insurgents can attack american troops is by hiding in houses and blowing up mines from afar. The insurgents have ZERO, absolute ZERO chance of winning.

Maybe thats why Bush is contemplating a massive strike on Iran to take out its Nuclear facilities.

Man this was fun...
