Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

In the past 3-4 months, wasim akram has issued couple of favourable statements regarding Pakistan team, inzimam and woolmer. He has also shown his intent and interest in coaching young budding fast bowlers lately. Don’t get me wrong here. I am not saying that he is doing something primarily to please PCB and the team management. I have no doubt about his sincerity but I have a feeling that he really really wants to coach the national side and wants PCB to hire him as the bowling coach. PCB on the other hand, bunch of dumba$$ dopers, have never ever shown serious interest in utilizing the services on long term basis, of the 2 greatest fast bowlers world of cricket has ever seen. There has been some rumors lately about ECB interest in hiring waqar younis. Now I would be really mad to see akram losing hope eventually and accepting the offer from any other board.
According to PCB they are only interested in hiring coaches who are qualified and has taken coaching courses. My A$$. Than why mushtaq ahmed? Why was he hired temporarily as an assitant coach during Pakistan/England ODI series and why he has been under consideration for a permanent position with the national side? What are his coaching qualifications and credentials? I don’t think he has taken any coaching courses.
What is the reason PCB is ignoring wasim akram when he has openly shown his interest couple of times during the last one year in the Pakistan team’s coaching assignment.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

fkhan2... until the day officials are handpicked, favoritism/politics/official ego will always hinder the development of our team. Luckily for us, Bob Woolmer is appointed a coach who is very professional and he is being listened to because he has gori skin. I guess we will have to wait until PCB officials are 'selected' on merit/qualifications basis before we get to see Wasim / Waqar as our bowling coach.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

It does make sense for Wasim Akram not getting a favourbale answer from PCB that the board might not wanted to have a controversial bowling coach that has been involved in politics, but Mushtaq's appointment doesn't make any sense at all. I think Akram and Waqar should be given the control of the Cricket Academy because this is the place where raw meterial for the national side is fine-tunned. But frankly speaking, I do not expect the PCB to engage the Ws for any duty. After all this is PCB — Pathetic Cricket Board :D

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

I just hope that the wait won't be too long. I dont wan't to see the day when wasim akram or waqar younis are coming out of the Lahore/Karachi airport with a 16 member squad of some other team for a tour of Pakistan and reporters asking them how does it feel to land in Pakistan with a foreign team as their bowling coach and how will it feel to sit in the opposing team dressing rooms in the same grounds where you spent your life bowling for Pakistan.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Akram always had a bad reputation and appointing him as a bowling coach will create a hell of problems for PCB. There will be a bunch of articles after Pak will face any defeat.

However here is an out-of-the-way dream scenario.

1.) A centeral coach: (name any) [KIM, Intikhab Alim is still out there]

2.) A bowling coach: Wasim Akram

3.) A batting coach: Salim Malik

4.) A fielding and hard-hitting coach: Ijaz Ahmed

PCB--> Pakistan Cricket Betting

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Salim Malik for batting coach? :hehe: plz… anyone except him… not just cuz he was involved in match fixing, but he happens to be the most racist person I know in cricket team (Pakistan).

I can smell Warne Here. This is a Warnie comment. If Malik was not banned (to prolong Warne’s career, that Malik intended to end a coupe of times) then Murali must have been the leading bowler in Tests.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Read my comments in () ... you are more of an Aussie fan then Pak fan, so it seems.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

yar baat akram kee horhee hay, aap warnie aur malik par aagiey hain. Thoree dair may aap andrew symonds ko enter kar dein gay is thread may.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

sorry

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Pak is always no.1 whether it is Akram or Shoaib. the smile was for your bracket.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

A new conspiracy theory in making.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

This thread is about a conspiracy theory though, so come to that. This Pak team is talented, in high spirits and can fight. Most players are young and need to be polished, particularly fast bowlers. And who could be a better trainer than the masters of reverse swing (Wasim and Waqar). Leaving our raw talent unpolished can mark an end to Pak dominance in the field of pace and swing.

IMHO Wasim is much a controversial character (not considering team politics here) and there are a lot of big (media) mouths out there who can accept wins but must relate every defeat to.......... As for Waqar, he is not as much a smart person as Wasim is (again, this is my opinion) and a coach needs to be smart to interact with players. Waqar will most definitely end like Miandad.

so fkhan2 bhai, plz remove my doubts.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Only Sarfaraz Nawaz can do the job.

usne apnay dor mein baray okhay cut marwaaye hain batsmen se apni swing baaling ki wajah se :hehe:

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

I think PCB is wary of the Politics that Wasim especially will bring into the team thats y they are not hiring, him! actually i would like wasim to b in the academy and work his way up like Aqib Javed, he has been through academy, under 16, under 19 WC wining coach, worked with the A team also! on the other hand you cn see why they wanted to hire Waqar for short stint to see how he would fit into the team, but I think Waqar is a better choice then wasim in terms of chemistry and waqar sticking to bowling rather than buding in everything else. Also he will not bring the baggage Wasim brings along! I think PCB really needs to act quick to bring waqar on board! and wasim has to be instilled in the academies! If not waqar then Aqib should b ein line to suceed woolmer!

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Sarfraz will be a good option if players need to be trained and they have already earned enough to buy a house.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

I understand that wasim has been involved in controversies in the past. Still I don't think it's a good enough reason of not hiring him. And lets suppose if it is the reason than what problem do they have with waqar?
PCB can comeup with all kind of bull crap of not utilizing their services but the bottom line is that it has hapened in the past as well, is happening currently and will happen in future. We have never appreciated the resources/talents we possess. Only when some outsider utilizes them than we realize their importance.
Eventually both of them will be hired by other teams. Waqar probably by ECB and Akram by India. And than whenever their bowlers will kick our asses than there will hue and cry from public. I hope you all remember what happened when Indian team beat us in 2004 series and their bowlers gave us a tough time. People actually demanded apology from wasim akram that why he unofficially trained/gave tips to indians left arm pacers, when akram only gave some friendly suggestions to indian bowlers.
It will again happen in future and you can expect the reaction from public and fans. At that time they can't even blame akram or waqar. They would however be blaming PCB who will come up with a statement that we always wanted to hire their services but they were never serious in taking the job for the Pakistan team, like they did in waqar's case right before the Pakistan India series.

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Sarfaraz nawaz is Cricket’s Nawab Zada Nasurallah Khan

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

Waqar Younis is bit different from Akram. Younis was a “transformed weapon” who required very little training to be lethal. Unlike Akram, who learned a lot and was (almost) at his best till he retired, Waqar was a very-very deadly-bowler at his very start. His performance was reduced after his injuiry and towards his end, he was just playing like a normal. The point is Waqar was a born player who never had to learn much and this might be a reason why PCB has not shown much interest in him. (at least I heard that in an interview)

Re: Why PCB is ignoring Wasim Akram?

umer.ashraf! ur failed to identify the immense or intense as someone puts it talent of this great Legend. Sarafaz will be required when PCB decides to teach aala paaye ki gaaliyaan to the players to use it as tactic against Indians and Aussies.
