A lot of those you've written about don't exist anymore..and you've missed out a lot more...
and lets not forget the second biggest party after the PPP...Pak Army ISI Political Affairs division..it's been allied with many of the parties on the list but it is not mentioned by the electoral commission for some reason? :p

At the time Balochi and Pathan traitors needed to kept under watch, so ZAB was right to set up the Political Division of the ISI.

I could also say Punjabi or Sindhi traitors, if they like some Balochi and Pashtun’s tried to fight for separatism or preach it in the 1970’s. The MQM for example is an example of treachery amongst some Mohajirs, but that in no way applies to all Mohajirs. So please do not take my words as a general statement against any ethnic group in Pakistan, or use it as an excuse to start bashing Pashtuns. Ok? I hope you understand what I mean?

:topic: Beep wrong answer, ZAB used the FSF to keep “traitors” and before him it was Military Intelligence under Ghulam Muhammad, Iskandier Mirza and Ayub Khan who did the same…and the ISI turned into a Political party in Zia’s time. Using your bizzare logic Jinnah should be blamed for making the army go into politics because he founded the Pakistan Army

i think the basic reason for having too many parties, cause many of the above have stronghold locally, and people dont think nationaly to launch a party, if you have 4 members in parliament wooo you have new party dude.
as a nation we are not tolrent enough to agree on one thing so everyone have own party. hurray. its also become lucrative business when two major ones need a third smaller one to form a government, at this stage they become hot cakes!!

Reason why Pakistan has so many political parties:
- Keep the Tonga (number of party supporters)business alive
- Thriving industry creating jobs for the needy
- Create market depth and liquidity for those who wish to trade party support
- Keep Govts guessing and confused (as if they needed any help!)
- Freedom of expression
- Freedom of switching loyalties
- Free market enterprise system
- Give every feudal, chor-chakari, mulla, beuracrat, general, brigadier, col, major, captain, admiral, subedar, businessman, baradari, ghoonda, badmaash and drug dealer a chance to participate in the political (????) process
- Provide next of kin a chance to be groomed
- More the merrier.....
Who is stopping anyone from starting a new party i.e., if you can afford one and stomach it....:D

btw, I can understand why general power grabbing ppl will have their own lil gang, but when 13 different religious political parties say they need to be in power because they will bring Islami Nizaam, is the nizaam diff from one party to another, and how do we know which one is right then? How can people who speak in loudspeakers about the need for the "ummah" to be united, cant be united with people with the same ideology.
