A couple of years back, a daughter of one of our family friends’, a chemical engineer in Canada, tied the knot with one of her first cousins who lived in Pakistan. The girl’s family had a few dholkis, mehndi, and a reception in Canada besides all the events that were held in Pakistan. The girl was also given a fully furnished house as a wedding present by her parents.
After that, what she gets to hear from her ma-in-law is GHAR DIA TO KIA DIA. MORTGAGE TO LARKE KO HI DENA PAREGA The guy hadn’t even set his foot on Canadian land at that time, let alone having a job that could pay the mortgage but if you tell this fact to people like her, then all hell would break loose.
