I was just wondering at the lack of serious efforts from Pak govt. to strengthen relationships with Russia. I know a lot of Russians, in fact many are my good friends. Very nice people!
Geographically, Russia is also not very far from us and it needs new friends.
There is interest and desire on Russia’s part to improve bilateral ties with Pakistan. So this question, why Pak govt. is not working on it?

I mean seriously, good relationships with USA -- yes.
But our future lies with regional alliances. China, Iran, Russia and so on.
yes, but road to the AWAN_E_SADDAR goes thru Washington. 
So how can we change it?
By educating and awareness. For that we need an improved education system and RESPONSIBLE media. we ARE getting there. It will take some time, but will happen.

Yes we had Good relations back in the 60's with Russia, when they helped us with heavey machinery to level the lands for irrigation downstream of the Guddu Barrage and GM Barrages.
Also they built our steel mill!

Russia courts the muslim world
Vladimir Putin was the first head of a non-Muslim majority state to speak at the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, a gathering of 57 Muslim states, in October 2003. That was a political and diplomatic feat, especially since Russia was waging a long-running war in Chechnya at the time. Putin stressed that 15% of the total population of the Russian Federation are Muslim (1), and that all the inhabitants of eight of its 21 autonomous republics are Muslim (2), and he won observer member status with the organisation, thanks to support from Saudi Arabia and Iran.
Since then, Putin and other Russian leaders, including the foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, claim that Russia “is, to some extent, a part of the Muslim world”. In an interview with Al Jazeera on 16 October 2003, Putin stressed that, unlike Muslims living in western Europe, those in Russia were indigenous and that Islam had been present on Russian territory long before Christianity (3). So Russia now claims to have a privileged political relationship with the Arab and Muslim world and believes that, as a mostly European state, it has a historic vocation as a mediator between the western and Muslim worlds.

So, it’s pretty clear to me that Russia would like have friendly relations with muslim nations, and possibly build a bigger alliance that can counter NATO. I have said this time and again, Pakistan should abandon the ‘brace of death’ by USA and join SCO asap.

The day Liaqat Ali Khan chose to goto Russia rather than the US, based on Russia's proximity irked the US bigtime, and since then they have made sure Russia remains on the opposite side.

Well I think its high time Pak starts paying attention.
Russia, China ... SCO are future alliances to look for.
I think policy makers need a poke.
May be media should start exploring this topic? You know like start asking questions etc.

Few years back, when President Musharaf visited Moscow, he along with some Pakistani diplomats, were looking enthusiatically to warming of relation ship with Russia but president Putin asked Mushi why is harbouring Chechens and Uzbak terrorists in FATA. So the situation could not be normalized.
Now we have no choice but to take care of NWFP and FATA, remove any foreign elements, catch them and tag them, No terroist or terroist organiszation in Pakistan.

We are already taking care of that. Pakistan has no conflict with Russia. On the contrary there are many issues where Pakistan and Russia share the same policies.
So we need to bring this issue in the media.

as strange as it is pakistan, as russia has previously said, has too many people who are or want to be US bootlickers. thats why pakistan attacked its own people and these leaders still do not value pakistani life. they crave a viceroy, they want to be part of the US camp no matter what US wants for them
SCO is right to bar a nation which could compromise their entire organisation, even if on paper pakistan seems a natural candidate for full membership.
