Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

I have heard the oft quoted phrase about this issue being related to “anxieties about muslims”. What are these anxities? Can they really be resolved by banning a clothing worn by 2000 women of the 5 million or so in France? Does it reflect broader xenophobia? What on earth is going here?

I’m totally NOT okay personally with the burqa, but I cannot understand why it is stirring up so much trouble, in that legislative action is taking place or is set to take place in a lot of European nations.

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

We Muslims better wake up and realize the fact that the current status of the world isn't going to change for the better, it will become worse and worse. Better we strengthen our imaan now than pay the price later. Because the times are changing fast, today it's just the burqa, tomorrow it can be worse. Remember Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Palestine, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Chechnya....! It's already mentioned in ahadith, this is not some terrorists vs the west, it's the WEST vs ISLAM.

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

^But there is islam in west and many western values are islamic too.

You are falling for trap when compare both.

One is religion and other is culture.

It's a way of life vs another way of life, simple as that. One is on HAQ and other is on falsehood.

Not that simple. :chai:

Well, then stop GOING to Europe.
European reaction is anti-Islam. But extremist lunatics and their propensity to kill anyone disagreeing with them is the major cause of this Western anti-Islam attitude.

By the way, when I read the topic "Why is Burqa being banned...", I thought it is burqaposhx being banned there. haha

I’m not in Europe, you ask ask samb for my bio. :rotfl:

and no1 can stop me from traveling to different places, nobody owns this world except Allah.

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

I did not talk about you personally. I was talking about Muslims in Europe in general.

So go ahead.

I'm still scatching my head when it comes to what exactly these "anxieties about muslims" are. Are Muslims imposing their clothing on European non-muslims? Their lifestyle? Are they dragging people to the mosque? Are they being insubordinate to public authorities?

I'm sorry, I'm so lost!!

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

Bro, the truth will always be attacked, has been since the time of the Prophet(pbuh). Sometimes it's unexplainable but know that Allah is with us.

^^ I don't really think its a matter of truth v. untruth -- its really easy to fall into the victim trap, but I'm not sure what exactly lies beneath this hysteria they're building up related to an article of clothing worn by a minuscule (<0.005%) segment of a minority group. I'd like to learn more about this from our friends in Europe.

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

They simply don't want any Muslims in Europe. Muslims are not threatening their culture or way or life. But they just don't want Muslims there.
It would be politically incorrect to deport all Muslim people when they are living peacefully and not causing any trouble. So Europeans are coming up with other ways, like banning burqa, to incite them, in the hope that Muslims themselves will either leave Europe or leave Islam.

how you treat minorities in islamic states....
do you allow europeans to live as per their own way in islamic states....

The key words there are** "Islamic states**." They have no delusions of being secular nations, and openly proclaim that they are theocratic states. I certainly don't agree with all of their laws, but unlike the Europeans, they aren't trying to claim that they're open, liberal, secular democracies while stripping minorities of the right to practice their religion freely.

you are right...in a way muslims are more free in democratic states than in their own...though....not thankful at all....

and are you sure if burqa is an integrated part of your religion....

ps...european countries are doing so for security reasons....nothing wrong in accepting and respecting the laws....

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

the west is against Islam. simple as that. they are our enemies, simple as that. only a few of them want peace with us. majority of them want us to be eliminated.

You're detracting from your original argument. Whether it is or is not a part of the religion is immaterial -- the fact remains its chosen to be worn be a very small segment of a minority group. I agree it has security implications, but I have yet to hear that argument come up in the media. It's all related to a vague construct they call "anxieties." Yes Muslims are free in the west, but honestly, I don't see my freedom here much different from the kind I experienced growing up in Pakistan. Didn't go to the mosque there nor do I go to one here -- though for entirely different reasons.

Most, if not all people originally from developing nations would experience more political and social freedom in the Western world. That applies to Indian Hindus too.

Baseless (and bigoted) conjecture.

I personally do not, and have never worn one in my life. That doesn't change the fact that there are millions of Muslim women who do, and in the interest of a free society, I support their right to do so. Unlike you, I don't believe it's the government's job to tell women how to dress.

PS...you clearly don't know what you're talking about. The French have made it clear that they are banning the burqa for cultural reasons, because it is "not consistent with French values."

But I'm not surprised to be seeing bigots defending the actions of other bigots.

cricketplaya brother, that's not the attitude to have.

I agree with you that we should be true to Islam and strenghthen our faith but we don't have to make everyone our enemy to do that.

There's wrongs on both sides.

Your attitude just marginalises and further demonises Muslims...

There are many similarities between traditional western values and Islam, we should concentrate on them..

We need to changes peoples opnions by showing them what true Islam is, not just through words but our actions and deeds and through hikmah, patience and beautiful-preaching in the face of aggression..

The common man in the west only hates Islam because of ignorance, a lot of them agree with Islamic values when explained to them...

After the collapse of Christianity there is a great spiritual void in the West, you are scaring potential Muslims away with your aggressive "us vs. them" attitude..

Re: Why is the burqa being banned in Europe?

Their country, their laws.....accept it or leave
