specific reason for me is that Allah forbade it. why shd i question Allah's rules? He knows His creations best and does what is best for us.

I am not questioning. I am just asking because there are reasons for alcohol, for example, being haraam and there might be a reason here which I am not aware of.

i heard some nasty stufff about this animal called pig...i dunno is it true or not but what i heard about it if i say in clean words that this animal is a shamless animal....

so i believe if muslims eat they can become shameless and ........ahem ahem

and about alcohol i believe if u r drunk u lost your hosh ..tu kuch bhi ghalat forbid karsakta hai insan so may b thats why alcohol is haram

BTW pork is also forbidden in bible and jews do not eat pork either i think.....

Great answer, there ain't much reasoning mentioned in Quran or Hadeeth but Jews and Christians are forbidden from eating it too. At the end of the day, Allah (SWT) knows best.

Pork is forbidden in Judaism- The prohibition comes from Torah, in the book Leviticus, Chapter 11,
verses 2 through 8, in particular, verse 7:
1. And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, 2
2. Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts
which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.
3. Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the
cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.
4. Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or
of them that divide the hoof: as the camel, because he cheweth the
cud, but divideth not the hoof; he is unclean unto you.
5. And the coney, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
6. And the hare, because he cheweth the cud, but divideth not the
hoof; he is unclean unto you.
7. And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet
he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you.
8. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not
touch; they are unclean to you.

And its forbidden in Islam as its the one creature that eats its own faeces and other shhiitteee and therefore haraam. Hope this helps

There is saying:

"You are what you eat"

Medically it is proven that what you eat has direct influence on your actions. Allah SWT works are without fault. Allah created everything for a purpose hence surely PIGS will also be doing something in world of nature.

However Allah has forbidden us to eat PIGS. Maybe someone can put up some writings from Quran or Hadith but I will say something of common sence.

A pig is a homoseual animal. (I am sure you see a lot of this in western countries)
They infact sometime eat their own offsprings.
Its a dirty animal, loves to live in filth and dirt.
etc etc

yesterday my coworker who is a nonmuslim guy told me that he stopped eating pig … cuz this animal is so disgusting, eats garbage…
i am never gona eat it again…

i was like duhh :smack: why do u think we muslims dont eat it

Besides the reasons others have given, here are a couple more. I got these in the email so I can't vouch for its veracity, but it seems to make sense.

  1. The pig's body is a host for many parasites and potential diseases.
  2. The blood contains uric acid. Due to the harmful nature of uric acid, blood is prohibited (haraam) in Islam. In humans 98% of the body's uric acid is extracted through blood by the kidneys. When an animal is slaughtered (zabiha) in Islam, its jugular vein is cut (leaving all other vital organs intact) so that all blood is drained from the body, and animal dies due to loss of blood. If, on the other hand, the organs such as heart, liver, etc are damaged or crippled, the animal could die immediately and its blood would congeal, and the flesh would be permeated with uric acid and become poisonous. This is way Islam prescribed a specific way to slaughter an animal. The pig can not be slaughtered at the neck because it does not have a neck. Also, a pig's biochemistry excretes only 2% of the uric acid content, the remaining 98% remains an integral part of the body.

Like all have mentioned above the answers are already there. It is important to note that your question for 'WHY' is specifically answered both in the Qur'an and Old Testament.

In the instance where it is mentioned as 'unclean for you' this is a scriptural reason given for WHY we cannot eat pork.

Also look to Al-Quran Surah Al-An'am Verse 145 it groups together the carrion, blood and swine flesh and calls all of these impure/impious meat.

This is the reason WHY we cannot eat it. Now the scientific discoveries tell us two things:

1) The behaviour of pigs as an animal is truly impious it will eat anything and be so low as to get excited at watching another male with it's mate.

2) It's meat has many toxins

So science confirms what we by faith hold to be true that the meat of swine is impious/impure/unclean and therefore we do not eat it.

It is 'food for thought' (mind the pun) that Allah (SWT) has given us the reason why, whereas for many other things the reasons are not specifically given. Not only does it tell us that the Author of those verses knows us so well that we will ask the 'WHY' question but also He is so Merciful to satisfy our curiosity by giving us the reason why when all we need to do is obey the command. We do not need to know the reason, but for this particular thing a reason is in fact given.

Well, I find Islam to be a very natural religion and I can get most of the answers to the 'WHYs' from the original sources which might not be true for other religions.

I think the prohibition has more to do with damages pork does to your soul rather than your body. If it were only medical reasons, we would not find pork loving societies (Australians, for example) to be healthier than general Muslim societies. On the other hand, it could be that we do not follow other healthy principles recommended in Islam and those societies do.

i have read and you can google it to read more on this the DNA for pigs and human are only slightly different. the human genome project has now been completed , that is why heart surgery with piggy valves is an option, it can cause mutations and that in turns effects human personality. or so i remember but read up i am hazy on details

pigs are the most dirtiest animals in the world
